Dear middle-aged women: capri pants do nothing for you.

Definitely true. Definitely don't GAF. They're comfortable and look a lot better on me than shorts. Be grateful.

Everyone else is lucky I am wearing capris instead of booty shorts, so there is that.

I went to an event today and many men and women in their 40s and 50s were in attendance. Most of the men wore polo shirts tucked in under their pot bellies and shorts.

Nearly all the women wore capri pants. Capri pants do nothing for you. If you are short, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are fat, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are tall, you don't look good in capri pants. If you are thin, you don't look good in capri pants. No matter the body type or age, capri pants are not flattering.

I say this lovingly. Wear anything else- anything! Shorts (long shorts, if you want to; even short shorts look better than capris), a skirt, pants, anything but capri pants. They make everyone look stumpy and shapeless. No one looks good in them.

Luckily, a lot of people aren't concerned with what random people think.

YES!!

I guess I should stuff my 53 year old overweight self into booty shorts and let my butt cheeks hang out. Better than capris!

Just wear regular length or ankle pants. What does 5 inches of skin around the ankle do for heat anyway? Make calves look fat and people look shorter, but I don't get it from a weather perspective.

I feel the same about midi dresses. There are very few people who look good cut off at that point on their legs.

I wore capri pants in my teens, 20's and early 30's but stopped in my late 30's and now 40 so I don't know what you're on about! you sound ageist.

I wore and wear short shorts just under my butt at age 38 to now at 40. Legs are slim and toned thank you very much! no capri pants for me.

I think the only person who could pull it off is Audrey Hepburn. She had the built and the poise. For the vast majority of people, it's not a flattering look. The absolute worst is khaki or chino capris.

if you're built like this girl it looks good

Well, then. I’m in luck!

I think you just have to spend a little time in front of mirror with different lengths and different amounts of tightness on the leg. I personally never wear a tight cropped pant and prefer a full length pant in a slim fit. But I have a couple pairs of true ankle length pants slim fit that look good with certain flats.

For wide leg, I look better in a slightly cropped wide leg linen pant than a long wide leg linen pant which totally swallows me up.

So I think it depends a lot on your body and what shoes you wear. Trying it all on side by side should be illuminating.

And also, sometimes when it's 95 degrees and I'm going to be at my kids' soccer games all day long, I really don't care and pick comfort over fashion!!

I wore my *one* pair of capri pants (actually a jumpsuit) a few weeks ago and wound up getting a very slight sunburn on the exposed part of my leg (I am super pale and will burn quickly under circumstances that barely register as a a sunscreen-worthy situation to others). So I've had a daily reminder of the main reason I don't wear capri pants for the last couple weeks, which is that they necessitate sunscreen on my ankles/calves, but I will forget to apply it because I'm technically wearing pants. And that is the super specific-to-me reason I don't wear capris!

But yeah, I agree they aren't super flattering. But lots of things aren't. I also probably shouldn't wear tanks anymore because they don't look that good on me anymore but... it's hot out. I'm not giving up tank tops, sorry.

She's exactly the one who should avoid them, her short legs look even shorter in them.
I do understand you're impressed with her butté.
