I want him to go because he doesn't seem too sharp. DCPS schools EotP invariably have OOB waiting lists. It's a no-brainer that leapfrogging over hundreds of names on the list is surefire way to upset droves of DC parents who want to stay in the city but can't enroll their children at failing IB schools and feel good about the decision.

Fenty got flak for sending his twins to Lafayette OOB despite the long WL there, and Rhee's claims that they "went through the usual process" to be admitted. Wilson should have read up on Fenty's mistake and learned from it.

That can't be right. There is almost certainly a provision that he can be fired for cause. Whether this is cause or not could be debatable. If he were terminated without cause, he would be owed his remaining salary and possibly more.

It may be costly to force him out (financially and politically) but he almost certainly can be forced out.

Earlier in this thread there was a link to his contract.

He is owed a healthy severance if he is terminated without cause. He forfeits the severance if terminated for cause.

That makes sense and is pretty standard for this type of contract. That's very different from PP's claim he couldn't be forced out.

Perhaps the point of the Ethics or IG investigations is to prove cause such that termination under the contract could not be disputed?

In which case Bowser's delay would save the city money.

Who are the Supervisors he sought guidance from, one was already fired, who else?

So, he could have put her in Dunbar!

This actually makes me feel for the guy. I would do anything for my kids.

I feel sorry for his too since I think it likely he will be forced to resign. It's a high price to pay. I was happy with him having to pull his child out and apologize. And right now my child is in a school where she is not thriving. I can't afford to move at all and could never afford to move WOTP. Every choice I am faced with is a bad choice. Still I feel sorry for him.

I didn't watch the interview and don't feel sorry for the guy. Supposedly his wife also works full time and I'm sure they will be absolutely fine if he is forced to resign. Who here hasn't had a child who went through an adjustment period at the beginning of the school year? Do we serve our kids best by being overly reactive and yanking them out of a school after only three weeks?
But his interview succeeded, now everyone feels sorry for him and doesn't want him to have to lose his job on top of everything else.

Don't people recognize when they are being manipulated??!!

+1

More likely than not, he is overplaying whatever social and emotional problems may have existed at the beginning of the schoolyear and the source of her newly-manifested "anxiety" was that she didn't audition properly for Duke Ellington in the first place.

In any case, he cheated the system when he could (and should) have just sent his daughter to Dunbar or a private school. And if there were deeper social/emotional issues (and actual anxiety), then he has just exposed DCPS's terrible track record of providing services to kids with these sorts of special needs.

"What did the Mayor know and when did she know it?"

Or maybe it's just politics.

That interview is shameful. The way he uses his family like human shields is revolting. And he couldn’t answer a single question directly. Just a bunch of mumbo jumbo.

This. Seriously, a performing arts school should be able to handle basic mental health issues. They are artists FFS.

Well, earlier this fall when my husband and I thought our son was struggling with anxiety what did we do? We paid out-of-pocket for a neuropsych evaluation. It is what his pediatrician recommended. And trust me, we do not have the financial means the chancellor clearly has. But we did what we needed for our child. I agree with PP that he is trumping up the claims of social emotional issues because as DC’s supposed supreme educator why wouldn’t Wilson have arranged for an evaluation for his daughter.? Perhaps he did but you would think he would mention it. And my guess is he wouldn’t even have had to do it out of pocket. He could probably pick up the phone and have DCPS do the evaluation, which takes the rest of us kicking and screaming to get. He’s an embarrassing excuse maker.

...sheez...he claimed Ellington was affecting his daughter's health (after only 3 weeks) and that somehow Wilson was her and his wife's decision. It just doesn't add up.

He's the Chancellor for chrissake. Wouldn't his family defer to him? Makes him look weak and his daughter spoiled.

They are all lies and exaggerations.

How does this guy still have a job???

I wonder if he would have allowed everyone at Ballou, who is scared of the guns in the neighborhood and the fighting at the school, to go to Wilson because it was affecting their mental health?

a teenager staying in her room and being difficult about food? how odd.
and why wouldnt she be out of sorts? moving across the country during hs? that sucks for a teen, of course she was pissed and probably slammed her door a few times.
has he ever met a teenager? wasnt he supposedly an experienced teacher and principal. shouldnt he have had a little more insight and strategies to fall back on?
what a load of bs.
he is so full of crap. and he thinks dc will believe him? not likley.
