Don't fly United

Realistically, at most I can see the particular cops who were involved getting reassigned. It's Chicago so I'm sure they have a strong union which will prevent them from being fired.

The CEO won't be canned because United made over $2 billion last quarter. Even today, their stock is down 2-3%, not 20-30%. It's down to where it was 3 weeks ago -- hardly a major impact.

The gate agent is probably part of a union too. They will get "counseled" then will continue their duties.

Well, this will prove very interesting considering that Trump wants to deregulate everything. I hope someone in the GOP has the balls to introduce legislation that will better regulate the use of overbooking by the airlines. I understand that it's a reasonable policy because people cancel flights all the time but there should be some consumer protections. Things like mandating a minimum for voucher amounts (double or triple the cost of the fight, automatic payment for hotel and meals, ability to refuse to "volunteer").

Instead, what do you want to bet under Trump he'll try to say that people should not be allowed to use their phones to record things on a plane...you wait...we are being led by a dictator.

Except their passenger base is sure to plummet.
Asians are boycotting United even more than we are.
I *almost* feel sorry for United.

Yea, the guy did not deserve it. But, did you all read about his background. Lost his medical license due to pain killer prescriptions for sex. Then became a Professional poker player.

You're just trying to defend your Democrat UNited Airlines CEO. Shame on him, and shame on you.

Are you kidding me? I have posted on this thread that United and their awful CEO are in the wrong completely. I think you have a reading comprehension problem. What United did was reprehensible. My point is a realistic one...overbooking is not ideal but a reasonable policy (that benefits everyone by way of lower ticket costs) but it must be used in a reasonable way that respects your customers. But let me guess, you're one of those Trump apologists who sees his name and immediately goes into attack mode without knowing what you've just read. Sad, Trump dummy.

United stock climbing again. I got in at 10am when it was 68.48, now it's up to 69.65. My strategy of doing exactly the opposite of what DCUM recommends paid off -- thanks DCUM!

Don't be daft. Of course we are all aware of the "airline deregulation" that took place in the late 70s. It takes the feds out of the business of dealing with fares, routes and new airlines entering the market. But there are a shit ton of regulations that relate to the airlines, planes, runways, you name it. My point is airlines, for example, should be regulated in the way they handle overbooking. Set a limit (can't overbook by a certain percentage), set a minimum that must be paid to customers who are bumped (triple the fare), enable the paying customer to say no.

I see United put out a hit piece on the man. They are eye deep in the shit now. The stock is falling like a dead bird out of the sky.

I don't care who this man is, what he's done. He bought a ticket like everyone else. To be treated like a common criminal is beyond the pale. A good lawyer can fix this.

Stock is doing OK. It opened at 70.15, dived down a few dollars, now back to 69.52.
