But with glimmers of hope. Plenty of time, still, for a deal.

The House only has a pro forma session tomorrow. I don't think they could vote on a different CR even if they wanted to.

Schumer could still try to surrender, but I'm not sure anyone else would follow.

Eight moderates would.

Whomever concedes is going to face the wrath of voters.

No they won’t. The same sides will still vote for the same sides. Give me an effing break.

The mass layoffs are coming anyway, people.

The budget cuts in the Trump budget call for slashing the State Department down 84%!!!!!! And other departments are going to suffer as well. There is no way they can get there without firing tons of people.

That's if the budget passes.

The threat to laying off people during a shutdown is disingenuous. Trump and Vought plan on letting them go anyway.

Do you guys understand this?

The point of Democrats standing up to Trump and force a shutdown is to make him lay off workers without them.

Otherwise if they approve the budget, they are complicit in the mass layoff.

I really hope you are all understanding this. The DC region is screwed either way. We can either make political hay out of this or suffer for nothing.

Do you get it?

Other than federal employees, no one is going to remember who is to blame for the shutdown next time they vote.

I’m not familiar with Congress. Are you saying they aren’t working around the clock to compromise?

Frankly I’m done with CRs. You know why the government is inefficient? It’s because they never get a budget and operate off CRs. Multiple ones each year. We can’t make plans more than a few months out.

And let’s be for real with federal layoffs - many agencies have so few employees that they are calling back people who took the DRP and begging them to return.

+1. Do you really think this plays in Peoria?

I don’t think people in Peoria care about federal workers as long as their checks come.

The budget can’t pass because the House isn’t in session. Call back your reps if you really care about the issue

The house passed their “clean CR” a while back and then left town until 10/6. A huge F you to the idea that compromise is needed to govern.

This is on Mike Johnson, who dictated that he would not negotiate or compromise. (And don’t get me started on how behind the whole appropriations process is - you are right, the government needs a budget. But only one party believes in government / governance.)

Voters aren't going to care about the shutdown in a year plus

I wish they’d suspend pay for congress during a shutdown. What a bunch of pussies.
