We need massively stepped up criminal enforcement and convictions in DC

If the murderer had either not left city limits or controlled his murderous ways once crossing the line, he would most likely be free right now or have Council members falling over themselves to provide him services, as we saw was the immediate impulse by a member of the Council after a man assaulted daycare workers in front of the children.

I have a novel idea: DC draft.

Draft 18-year old men and women for a year, train them, make them serve as a form of national guard and pay them for the service. Also give them a GI Bill to a trade or college after the service if they behave honorably.

Essentially turn the young carjackers into useful members of the society alongside the useful members of the society. The only way out of the draft is to pass stringent math and literacy tests, plus perhaps financial literacy and good citizen behavior test, and be enrolled in a full-time 4-year college or accredited vocational school.

Oh so you want to talk about El Salvador? While Bukele has certainly achieved the unthinkable by crippling the gangs' power, let's not act like it's all fun and games in El Salvador. Bukele has eliminated the right for the accused to have a legal defense, suspects can be held indefinitely, innocent people are picked up and not allowed to tell their families, innocent people end up in his new supermax prison and disappear. Sounds like a great dude. Nayib Bukele for US president!

No. We already have a real military that they can join if they pass the requirements. Personally, I’d rather not give our criminals training in weapons and tactics.

What we should do is gather up those people and take them out to rural areas and force them to work the farms for a year. They can get out of it if they are studying or have gainful employment somewhere else.

The government there had the opposite goal - safety for the greatest number, as opposed to the Council who has an anti-carceral agenda.

Seems to be a theme about dead kids, the number in DC has soared, yet calls from activists are not to change course, but more, more, more of the policies that got us here. Quite troubling that all this irresponsible dark money is coming into DC and harming residents and communities.
