This is predictable given that 22207 is the home of the privileged antimask Covid deniers who have to get back to "normal."

This theory doesn't make any sense. If your description of 22207 were accurate, we would expect to see the 22207 schools with above-average case rates all through the pandemic because those families would have been engaged in higher-risk activities all along, but the data doesn't bear that out. For the pandemic as a whole, Yorktown is squarely in the middle between W-L and Wakefield, based on both total cases and relative to total student population. Hamm has the lowest case/student rate of the middle schools; Williamsburg is on the higher side, but clustered right with Gunston and Jefferson on a case/student basis. For the elementary schools, Discovery is above average on a case/student basis, but Nottingham, Jamestown and Taylor have been at or below average.

I can't tell you why there is a suddenly such a huge spike in cases in 22207, but the data does not support your theory.

Eh. Attitudes have been changing rapidly over the last few weeks and people who wore masks and took mandated precautions because they weren't rule breakers may feel more emboldened now that the mandates have dropped. If you look at the dashboard over the last 7 days for 22207 and the school breakdowns, Nottingham, Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg are all showing the highest number of cases across APS, in that order.

22207 and 22213 (far northwest corner with both Discovery, Tuckahoe kids) have the LEAST cases per 100,000 over the entire pandemic.

That’s probably why they are getting it now. They didn’t have natural immunity. So, makes come off, indoor play dates and birthday parties are on and kids get covid.

Yep and these are the schools where kids are unmasking in much greater numbers.

Do you have data to back that up, or is it pure speculation?

Of course it's speculation. There is nothing else it could be.

Ready for what? All the adults are vaccinated now in Arlington, and many kids are too (even though that wasn't necessary at all). Most people have been previously infected too.

Here's what our family is doing differently for any new variant = 0

So you are denying that kids are removing masks in large numbers in North Arlington?

Kids have in fact removed masks in large numbers at Discovery, yet we have no upticks in cases.

How do you explain Asia then, where it's a forced maskers dream in mask compliance? Cases are through the roof. They just ust not be masking hard enough in Asia.

The question is the current relative rates of mask wearing at schools currently seeing a spike in cases vs other schools. I don’t know the current masking rates in 22207 schools to answer your question either way, nor do I know the rates for any other schools. Therefore, I do not have a basis to confirm or deny that this factor at all explains the current spike of cases in 22207. If you have data to support your assertion, please provide it. Otherwise this is nothing more than baseless speculation on your part.

Omicron.

And their Omicron surge is 5200 new cases which I think is pretty darn good in a country of 1.4 billion.

so maybe those masks and other mitigation measures work. hmm.

Haha - you actually believe any information that comes out of China. Just like Dr. Ding.

Here is forced maskers' dream country of South Korea. This graph doesn't show the fact they just hit 400K cases the other day in 1 day, which would be the 1 day equivalent of 3M cases here (the highest I see is 1.35M in 1 day).

Thankfully APS kids no longer have to suffer with this forced masking any longer. Thank you Governor Youngkin and Chap Petersen.

Wait, what twitter accounts are we allowed to quote now? Can we quote unverified data from the guy who is trying to sell his own book on the failure of covid mask mandates?

The question is the current relative rates of mask wearing at schools currently seeing a spike in cases vs other schools. APS isn't keeping data on how many kids are not wearing masks, at least as far as I know. I believe they stated that are not doing that. It would be great if they did because then we could really see the impact of removing masks on case levels. If you'd like to see that too, then email APS to ask them to collect that data.

Here is what I know: We live in 22207. I have heard from my children and I have heard from my friends with kids at nearby schools about how many kids are unmasking in the 22207 schools. I'm also hearing from friends with kids in other schools in other parts of Arlington. Kids in those schools are keeping their masks on in much higher numbers. (The stark difference is quite fascinating to me.)

I can read the dashboard and I can compare the cases at the schools in 22207 to the cases at the schools in other parts of Arlington. The data shows that there are a lot more cases now in the 22207 schools as compared to the other zip codes. Some will dismiss this is a coincidence of course.

Almost all the kids at my daughter's school are not wearing masks and it is in 22207. I went inside the other day and did find it comical how 80ish percent of the staff were.

Other relevant factor is the surveillance testing opt-in factor. No way I’m signing up to contribute to our community’s mass hysteria. Happy to test if my kids are symptomatic but otherwise absolutely not.

Not sure which school you’re at but when volunteering this week I found that the majority of office staff, teachers were not masked! 22207
