31, sorry. |
To answer your Q, based on the responses here, yes there are still some folks who think mask optional is a real problem. |
My kid has been a close contact twice since mask optional (she does not mask) and didn't get it either time. (Yes, I tested.) I'm saying this to give you some comfort. Sounds like your kids mask, so chances are even lower. Good luck, hope your kid stays covid-free. |
For some perspective, a child in DC's class had covid (parents thought it was allergies at first) so was symptomatic in class for at least 1 day. No mask. Most of the class was not masking. No kids from the class got COVID. This is just one story but I was sure they would do down like dominos, but they didn't. |
Same experience in my daughter's class. Two kids at very different times post-mask optional had covid and no one else in class got it. I have also been exposed a couple of times with omicron and never got it and now realize part of the panic porn is how incredibly contagious it is. So contagious that any exposure means you're doomed. Apparently not really. |
Thanks! We hope this will be our experience! |
More expected this week at families will test before traveling for spring break (especially those required by other countries before entering). |
Today our ES school received our first community covid notification in almost three weeks. It will be interesting to see if others follow, especially after Spring break. My kids are still wearing masks. Wishing good health to everyone! |
I'm shocked there are still a few ES kids wearing masks. Saying "just wait until after Spring Break" tells you about the neurosis of the parents of these poor kids. |
Neurosis? I don't want to lose 10k on our Spring Break vacation! Even an symptomatic infection would prevent us from going, due to international travel rules. |
^Asymptomatic |
Don't worry, your child is likely unmasking regularly anyway. When I asked my kid the other about how masking was going in her classroom, she offered that all the kids take them on and off all the time now "even the ones who wear them". And the teachers won't say boo about it. The masking for the little guys is really just over. Unless you staple it to your kid's head. |
Our school is still 99% mask wearing. So is my neighborhood school (from the kids i see walking to class). This is in S. Arlington large minority populations and in 22204 which has been hit hardest among covid. Easier for families to go maskless when they haven't lost family/friends from it (we lost 3 of my neighbors and my husband's uncle). I am not saying that kids need to wear masks forever (although my kids chose to wear them until the end of the school year when I gave them a choice). From what I gather on this board there is a very big difference between mask wearing in North vs. South Arlington elementary schools. (I am not making this statement to argue for or against masks but just the different perspective families may be experiencing) |
Interesting. I know this is an APS thread, but my kids go to school in ACPS and I've seen the exact opposite here and my kid has reported something different. Many minority kids never wore masks properly, never had good quality masks, and still don't even if they wear them. White kids masked up tight. |
Looks like yesterday's 31 was a catchup. Only 5 today. |
