I'm shocked there are still a few ES kids wearing masks. Saying "just wait until after Spring Break" tells you about the neurosis of the parents of these poor kids.

Neurosis? I don't want to lose 10k on our Spring Break vacation! Even an symptomatic infection would prevent us from going, due to international travel rules.

You paid $10,000 for an international vacation during a pandemic and you didn't buy trip insurance?

The people who are saying that 22207 is unmasking more because they're white (and South Arlington ES are all masked) are white, rich people like Ventilation Woman who live in 22207 and have 0 idea what a Title 1 school even looks like, let alone what's going on in one right now. The wealthier people in Arlington are masking more because they're part of the laptop class who thought they were so noble by getting groceries delivered before the vaccine (using their brown human shields).

Our school is still 99% mask wearing. So is my neighborhood school (from the kids i see walking to class). This is in S. Arlington large minority populations and in 22204 which has been hit hardest among covid. Easier for families to go maskless when they haven't lost family/friends from it (we lost 3 of my neighbors and my husband's uncle). I am not saying that kids need to wear masks forever (although my kids chose to wear them until the end of the school year when I gave them a choice). From what I gather on this board there is a very big difference between mask wearing in North vs. South Arlington elementary schools.

(I am not making this statement to argue for or against masks but just the different perspective families may be experiencing)

Somebody actually stepped up and is delivering KF94 masks to all of the APS Title 1 schools weekly. I work in one of those schools, and their advocacy is appreciated. Lower income families at least in APS has access to good masks.

It’s normal for people to get covid! That doesn’t make anyone a covid denier. I don’t know what some of you are waiting for or expecting to happen next. Covid is now a part of all of our lives. We still vacation and do stuff, but masked indoors. Not a big deal.

Trying to avoid the annoyance of being sick and long term increase of diabetes when an easy precaution of a mask would prevent it. I also wash my hands before touching my face to avoid strep and flu going around. And whatever else going around. We don’t do anything burdensome to avoid illness.
