Playing travel soccer in this area means you shouldn't have to go all the state of Virginia to play elite soccer. Another item, not every team that is in CCL would be in NCSL, so that means there are teams in Div 1 or 2 in NCSL that are the top teams for their club in the respective age group. Keep in mind the idea behind CCL is that teams choose "Development" over winning games. IF that were the case, then why do you need to travel fAR to see if a new formation works or if a FWD can play in the back. +1 Roanoke and Virginia Legacy consistently field dismal teams. Bethesda was smart to say adios to CCL from the beginning, and BRYC is smart now to get out. Traveling regionally is fine if the juice is worth the squeeze. Hours upon hours driving + hotel costs to play Roanake at U11 and U12 is why you should choose another league. -- Giddy up dead horse -- |
BRYC leaving CCL does hurt that league in terms of quality competition, but things change...where else can you go?
And let's clarify, are we talking girls or boys, because the answer can be very different depending. CCL is trying to expand, but it will take time...SYC and FCSC joined for CCL II. NVSC and Ellicot City joined for CCL I. Not that these are awesome clubs, but for those non ECNL/DA players, what's the other option? It's not like VPL is very competitive either...and you have to play teams in other parts of the state too. |
8 of the 10 VA State Cup Champions from Fall 2016 were CCL teams. That would tell me there are plenty of quality teams in CCL. |
Sure after you subtract ECNL and DA teams. |
Again...trying to have a discussion for kids that don't want or can't play ECNL/DA. We get it...ECNL and DA is the best if you want to go that route. But that doesn't mean all ECNL teams are better than all non-ECNL teams. McLean ECNL for example...not very good at some age levels. |
State Cup will be even easier next year...lol. |
The only teams worth facing is Arlington, McLean, and maybe Beach FC. The rest are garbage, and to think you have to drive to Roanoke to play a bad team is nuts! There are plenty of bad teams here in NoVa. The poster that says they are not all away games fails to see that it's a round robin, so you will at one point have to drive for a league game. With BRYC out of CCL, and NPL losing its luster, I have no doubt for most clubs their best bet for both boys and girls is to have NCSL be the default league. This way all of your teams can have quality competition, and those that are advanced can be in ERL or have them apply for the top tournaments. Two of the best national tournaments are in our backyard, Jefferson and Bethesda Cup. Arlington's SAIS is getting recognition. You don't have to buy in to CCL and have to seek exceptions when your top team in one age group is dominating, but the other teams in the other age groups are playing competitively. |
[i]Maybe your kid will even get to play!! haha |
*ASIST instead if SAIS |
Once again...what age group/gender are you referring to?? I didn't fail to see the round robin concept. Been doing this for 5-6 years now. Yes, you do eventually travel to play the crappy Roanoke team, but that is once every 2 years. It's not a reason not to play CCL. Right now NCSL doesn't have the best teams...maybe they will in the future, but they don't right now. NCSL was much better quality 5-10 years ago. |
Let's see the argument is NCSL vs CCL...and travel/quality of teams is the question?
NCSL - depending on division, you may have to play 4+ games in a single season that require you to drive an hour or more away. So spending 4 weekends traveling to places like Martinsburg WV, Baltimore, Annapolis, Stafford, Winchester (just to name a few) is better than 2-3 trips a year to places like Va Beach, Williamsburg or Charlottesville? Our CCL team is only leaving northern VA once this spring season for a game...and that's to Montgomery County. |
I tell you what. One can only dream |
That's why DC United have so many talented players coming threw the academy ![]() Wouldn't he be the new academy directed at DC if this was the case? |
So now he sucks? |
You will probably not be playing those same teams AWAY the following season, even if you do play those same teams. In general after U17, it's completely diluted and I would say unless you're a top performing team in DA, ECNL, or Region 1 you're games are irrelevant and your parents stop caring a while back. With all of the elite leagues in the area, CCL certainly doesn't matter, imagine convincing a 17 yo he has to go to Roanoke to play a game in a league he sees as 2nd tier because he's smart enough to know all of his friends that are actually good were accepted into the elite teams. |
