My top tier local teams are BF, Mad, Robo with a gap to the second tier of YT, Oak, WF. Another gap to third tier of Woodson, McLean, and WS. Cosby appears to be more aligned with the top group. I think our state champ will likely come from Tier 1 plus Cosby. Difficult to judge Woodson (only two games) until they play a team in my top three tiers. Honorable mention to AC.

Where do you put West Po?

Right now based off of team games, Tier 4. That score against Washington and Liberty and seeing common opponents tell me they arent serious contenders. But again small sample size. them losing their goalie and top scorer from last year has obviously hurt them

This. And Tier 4 may be generous. Even last year’s team was not a state contender. 19-2 loss in start quarters is not a real contender.

I think Battlefield will have a chance to be beat by ROBO because of schedule. 5 games in 7 days. Travel to YT game 4 then Robo following night. I still believe they end up 14-0

BF will drop one game this year, im calling it. Just alot of lax, and very little depth from bench.

BF is strong, but not overwhelming favorite. Close game against Madison. Robo played Madison to OT. Youngins at YT competed with Robo and are getting better each game. BF is the favorite, but gap is not big enough that they couldn’t be beat. I don’t think it’s merely a busy schedule that could lead to an L.

Yorktown fan here. I agree with this analysis. I think BF and Madison are a tick above Robo.

Anonymous wrote:I find it interesting when people look at POY that they hone in on only two key stat lines.

1) did the player score o ton of goals?

2) did the player have about a 60% save rate

Are these the only two factors that you look at when looking for a POY?

I am not criticizing and I’m not saying these players aren’t worth it and I’m not saying that these two factors aren’t important. Are there any other factors that would make a player stand out?

Asking for a Robinson parent

I think people would probably consider assists and maybe draw win%, but unfortunately lacrosse hasn’t really entered the world of advanced stats yet

I totally agree. I was just commenting on the statement, "lacrosse hasn’t really entered the world of advanced stats yet."

I beg to differ. Check out: https://lacrossereference.com/ Just subscride to the free Expected Goals Daily newsletter. Crazy, indepth statistics, analytics, analysis and insights. Often with comprehensive explanation of the process.

I've actually subscribed to that service for a few years, but I think the point is that no one is tracking this stuff for Virginia girls high school lacrosse so I wouldn't expect a more nuanced analysis of POY candidates beyond a few pretty obvious top line stats.

It was actually a 22-2 loss in state quarterfinals, but point still made. 2025 WP was a state qualifier (out of a weak Region), but not a state contender. This year's WP team is significantly weaker version of the 25 team. Tier 5+ in my opinion.

Westfield 17 Herndon 3
Westfield 13 West Springfield 3

I would say both are 5 at best. Surprisingly WS seemed more on par with Fairfax and South County than a contender.

Lot of subpar play today across the board at ffx tournament. Just down year across the board. Whoever had the tier 1s spot on. Everyone else is lumped together. If a specific teams main 1 or 2 girl off any given game it really impacts the game. Depth is a significant issue across board
