Oakton

Not sure they require much focus to beat the back loaded teams.

Agree with this. Yorktown this year, is not the same. Maybe Robinson could give them a game. Langley and Oakton, not great.

I like McLean, WS and Riverside.

1) did the player score o ton of goals?

2) did the player have about a 60% save rate

Are these the only two factors that you look at when looking for a POY?

I am not criticizing and I’m not saying these players aren’t worth it and I’m not saying that these two factors aren’t important. Are there any other factors that would make a player stand out?

Asking for a Robinson parent

I think people would probably consider assists and maybe draw win%, but unfortunately lacrosse hasn’t really entered the world of advanced stats yet

Tonight’s game results:

YT 10- West Springfield 4
Close 1st half but YT had a stronger 2nd half. WS struggled clearing the ball above the 50yd line and turnovered the ball on YT’s redefend giving them too many 2nd opportunities on offense. WS looked better on draw controls.

Westfield 7- McLean 4
Both goalies were fun to watch. Pretty evenly matched teams skill wise. Goalies play big part on both defenses. Nice to see two programs become more competitive this season.

Langley 3- Riverside 15
Langley loss to two teams already this season on a running clock (Madison + Riverside). They are not the historic powerhouse program anymore. Seems like a rebuilding year for them. Hope they can progress throughout the season. Riverside looks strong and should do well in their class maybe even win another state title.

WS was a solid team but the difference was halftime adjustments. Yorktown outcoached WS and took control of a close game in the 2nd half. Looks like they still
miss Coach P.

Agree overall. WS went up 3-0 in the first quarter, then it was all Yorktown. Impressed with Yorktown's settled and transition defense. I think there's still a sizable margin from where they are now and the top couple teams.

This is great. Thank you for sharing. Great analysis on three different games

So based on where we are in the season. How are we ranking them now? What are the good matchups going forward?

I've actually subscribed to that service for a few years, but I think the point is that no one is tracking this stuff for Virginia girls high school lacrosse so I wouldn't expect a more nuanced analysis of POY candidates beyond a few pretty obvious top line stats.

Usually draws win the game at this level. Just watched UNC vs UVA game last week and despite UVA having an amazing draw taker, they clearly struggled to convert on those possessions against an amazing UNC team. But did it give them a fighting chance, yes.

My top tier local teams are BF, Mad, Robo with a gap to the second tier of YT, Oak, WF. Another gap to third tier of Woodson, McLean, and WS. Cosby appears to be more aligned with the top group. I think our state champ will likely come from Tier 1 plus Cosby. Difficult to judge Woodson (only two games) until they play a team in my top three tiers. Honorable mention to AC.
