Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
VHSL issued the ban.
Hayfield has appealed.

Anonymous
Good. I hope Freefield is banned for all the crap Overton has pulled.
Anonymous
There is a lot of public interest in this scandal. I hope VHSL publishes the letter.

6 of the freshman play with the JV/Varsity teams, the rest are from the frosh team but dress for Varisty

Does the entire freshman team "dress for Varsity"?

No, the rest of the freshman don’t.

So out of an entire freshman team, 13 get the special advantage of being listed on the "Varsity' roster and dress for Varsity games and of those 13, 6 get to play for JV/Varsity.

I bet all 13 of those kids are transfers or play for Overton's private football program.

13 get the privilege because they show they are worthy of practicing with the JV and Varsity team, they are just much better than everyone else on Freshman, if you played football in High school you would understand. 3 of the 6 are transfers. The 10 others are “real” Hayfield kids.

How many play for his private football program?
How do you know if a freshman is a transfer or not? They wouldn't be on a roster from anywhere else last year.

Only a few play for his 7on7 team, his “football program” is like a training organization, if you’re familiar with First Down Performance it’s similar to that. I know if a freshman is a transfer or not because I have a son on the Varsity team. Additionally, most of the transfers end up being on the JV and Varsity squads instead of Freshman.

Many top athletes don’t attend their local high school and go private as a path to play in college. If a football player is zoned for hayfield, he will probably consider staying public and forgoing private, even if he has the opportunity. That’s assuming the Hayfield program is not disassembled.

So someone pays him for private training and he promises to put their kid up on Varsity on the public high school team......How is that ethical?

Don’t other public school football and basketball coaches do this? I wonder how prevalent of a practice it is.

My kids played three different sporst in HS and no, none of their coaches did this. No idea how prevalent it is otherwise, but obviously it goes without saying that its highly unethical to promise a kid a Varsity position on a public school team if the family pays your for private lessons. I mean, come on, does anyone think that is ok?

There are only so many gifted athletes naturally occurring within any public schools given boundary zone.

Just popping in to see if VHSL letter has been posted anywhere yet, or any updates?

Is this something that would be publicly released? No other information about their investigations or FCPS investigations into their scandals was publicly released.

My man Chad needs to go back to journalism school. He didn't ask his "source with direct knowledge of the situation" any actual questions.

Or worse, tells a family their kid WON'T be on varsity at a public school! or won't play if they don't PAY him for private training. Gross.

If he was selling positions on his team to the highest bidder, he wouldn’t be winning so many games.

Homeless kids don’t pay for private training.
