Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
Hayfield had a “signing day” for all of its various seniors. 14 announcements - no P4; 2 or 3 low grade FCS; and the rest D2 or D3 schools. I was rather unimpressed.

Note that the D1 signees were announced back at the first signing day.

All the people who let Overton cheat --including Gatehouse staff, Reid, the principal, etc--got away scott-free.

+1. All of the people who were complicit in this should be fired. I hope the employees who did the right thing and got punished have retained legal counsel.

I'm reading this forum just as work entertainment, I have no dog in this fight since my kid goes to a MIAA school. Good lord you have to be a supreme hater not to consider that impressive for a public school.

It's hard to judge the results Overton produces because he pulls in talent from everywhere. Most of the decent public schools in the area are putting 4-8 kids into college programs each year. Overton is usually double that, but the kids he brings in were brought in because they were talented. How many of these Seniors with commitments were original Hayfield kids? I know the one kid going to Navy has always been there, but I also think he had that offer before last spring.

Yes sorry. Kicker to Bowie State. So 15 of the 18 signees were transfers.

Hayfields former basketball coach—who lasted one year— is currently suspended from his current job due to a physical altercation, so I’d say the whole of Hayfield’s athletic department needs a good cleansing.

The post says former and not current. The current coach is solid.

Makes perfect sense.

Overton should take the South County job.

Good call. He'd fit in well with that administration...a bunch of incompetents who never earned a thing in their lives.

You're unimpressed by kids going on to college to play sports AND get an education? That's really sad. I hope you don't have children.

The further the MIT kid can get away from his dad the better. I wish him the best of luck.

Well it’d be more impressive if the Langley, Madison, McLean, Robinson, or Woodson would’ve done it.
