I really don’t understand why protesting this war is a whole ‘bother level of bad according to some. The stuff that is happening in Gaza is terrifying - and I think most people can agree with that. The only question is whether it’s justified. Having young people look at the situation in Gaza and demand an end to it surely is the least surprising thing in the world. And having some that step over the line and turn their frustration into anti Jewish rhetoric is also surely not surprising. Sure, deal with people who are endangering others. Or disrupting learning in serious ways against campus policy. But otherwise, let it be. And if some folks are offended, so be it. Look at the standards in our society. Protestors are allowed to hold pictures of fetuses outside an abortion clinic and harass patients. We are training our children to deal with unpleasant speech everywhere. I am not sure why donors have stepped in to squash speech. It’s weird to men. |
Seriously. These utter morons actually get their "news" from TikTok and lap it right up. They wouldn't last even a second in Gaza. But they'll stupidly keep on cheering for Hamas! |
DP. Are you ok? You need to calm down. Did your arrest and subsequent suspension/expulsion trigger you? Best of luck as you navigate your new position as a pariah in society. |

DP. Well, we all know for sure that you have zero self-awareness and a very low IQ. |
They're utter cowards. Who, of course, are demanding amnesty from their schools and from being arrested. Too funny. |
My kid absolutely does. But for her, that doesn’t matter. She demands, based on our faith, that all are treated according to our principles. As an example, it is harder to argue against the death penalty if you are faced with a man who has raped and murdered a young mom in front of her traumatized children. But if you do not believe the state has a right to take a citizen’s life as a punishment, then the nature of the crime doesn’t matter. It isn’t easy to live. |
Commencement at Columbia is May 15 and the tent city is occupying the space where it will happen. (That's why USC canceled their commencement, fyi.) The protestors are being evicted. |
Oh, then your kid must have been absolutely horrified by the atrocities committed on Oct. 7! Did she speak out then? No? Why not? DP |
How cute that she “demands.” Why don’t you send her to Gaza and let her do her demanding there? Oh and btw if this faith you speak of is Christian she should have some awareness of evil in the world. And the mandate to eradicate it. |
Which is fine. If the policy of the school says that protestors do not have the right to disrupt commencement or other major events, sure, evict them. My understanding of USC was refusing to allow a selected speaker to speak based on social media posts and/or ethnicity. Of course that is going to enrage people. |
She can demand until the cows come home and you don’t have to listen to her. But she is free to believe this is the way US society should behave. And why would I send her to Gaza? Do you think I am crazy? |
Of course she is free to believe whatever she wants. Most of us were stupid at her age, too. |
Are these students still going to class and/or taking exams? How many of them will not return to campus in the fall because they failed out? |
You do realize that many of the protesters aren’t students? And aren’t in any way affiliated with the schools? |
