Really?!

Anything in the top 100 nationally is still very good! Stuyvesant was #1 for the longest time, now it's below TJ. It still has less than 1% acceptance. TJ is still a very good school! There are 25k schools in the nation, so to be ranked in the top 100 still puts the school in the .4%Ile. Geez, people get some perspective!

Wait to do it again when it’s out of top 100. Won’t be long)

This decline occurred based on data from the previous admissions process. The new one which eliminated the cheating should improve the schools standing.

TJ really didn’t decline. It’s in the range normal.

TJ isn’t usually #1. The rankings are volatile because the infinitesimal differences between the top schools.

There was a time when stuyvesant/bronxscience/brooklyntech was more or less in a class of it's own as public magnet schools. TJ didn't exist, Bergen academy didn't exist, BASIS and charter schools didn't exist.

For what it's worth, Stuyvesant has about 50% FARM. I think Brooklyn Tech is a Title 1 school. TJ used to be about 2% FARM. It's about 15% FARM now. I don't mind a set aside for FARM kids but I am concerned that the lack of an objective standardized exam is not allowing TJ to select the most prepared kids. I really don't see why this 1.5% plan and FARM preferences can't co-exist with a test.

I hope you're right but based on the PSAT scores we have seen, it seems likely we will at least see our test scores drop below a lot of other schools.

TJ is less competitive than in past years. Overall, it is academically weaker.

No one should express surprise TJ’s ranking has fallen from first to 14th place.

Now that the selection process has been fixed to prevent the faux-gifted kids from buying their way in, I suspect TJ will be back on top. It's also more diverse at least not just the kids from a few wealthy schools and also less toxic.

Everything can be reverse-engineered, but the only way TJ returns to being on top is if the evaluation criteria are rewired specifically to reward TJ for its own "experience factors.

Otherwise the slide will continue.

US News and World Report does not care about the ranking of any particular school. The metrics are what they are and where TJ lands will largely depend on the level to which the new students have participated in AP exams and their success in passing them.

Either way, the exams that will affect the next set of rankings have already been taken.

Standardized testing accounts for 30% of the ranking.

And the data was from TJ BEFORE they changed the selection process so guessing it will shoot way up since the new process got rid of all those cheaters.

The report says "Data are based on the 2022-2023, 2021-2022 and 2020-2021 academic years."

The SOL scores are likely to go down slightly as well if US News drops the earliest year in their average calculations.
For 2020-21, the pass rates were 100% for reading, writing, math, and science.
For 2022-23, the pass rates were reading 98%, history 99%, math 99%, and science 100%.

Equity efforts involve setbacks, and include scores going down. However, when scores hit rock bottom, the only direction they can move is upward. Let's exercise patience until we witness that positive trajectory. Once we have the all the remedial classes in full swing, scores should stabilize.
