A Southern elite with $650k+ in private education and she's only a pre-K "teacher" at age 34? Anyone in education knows pre-K isn't actually a teacher and you certainly don't need $650k in credentials to do it. Something very odd about all of this, especially how a gal like this even lets a man like him orbit her.

Whether she's a preK or kindergarten teacher (I've heard both), i cannot believe you made such a critical condescending comment. We should be glad to have and encourage well-educated teachers at all grade levels. If she doesn't need a high-paying job, what's it to you? Many people love teaching young children.

She presumably didn’t meet her husband until her late 20s and didn’t have children until around age 30. So she’s been a pre-K teacher for 10 years (since age 23 or 24 after getting her master’s in Nashville), well before marriage and kids came into the picture, and hasn’t advanced? It’s a bit strange.

hardly. princess diana was a preschool teacher aide before marrying. definitely one of the paths of young women w/established family money who are basically waiting to get married.

You proved my point. Diana was a teenage pre-k teacher. Diana married at year 20. This year 34 gal has elite diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and she’s doing a job she’s overqualified for.

Maybe she likes the job? If she was happy why did she have to chase the paycheck?

Sure. Or maybe there’s some there there. All of the pre-k teachers I know are fresh out of undergrad and do it for a year or two.

And those i know make a career out of it and don’t do it for the money because they are already wealthy. They like the hours and like kids. Imagine that.

I know two preschool teachers old enough to collect Social Security. They continue to teach because they love the kids and helping them learn and prepare for kindergarten. PP is ridiculous.

My son’s preschool teacher was a multi-millionaire (prominent family, $2 mn dollar home in DC.) she taught because she liked little kids and wanted to help them grow

And she could afford to.

Yep. My Uncle owns a prominent law firm worth mega mega bucks and my Aunt has worked as a reading teacher for little kids at the local school for decades.

My oldest son works in logistics and they advise truckers not to stop in Memphis. It’s THAT bad.

NP - I really had no idea, wow. Is it mostly property crime, or violent crime? (Or both?) And why there ?

Here are a few crime stats for Memphis in 2021:
1. Ranked the No. 1 most dangerous city in US
2. Ranked 2nd highest homicide rate in any US metro area
3. Memphis violent crime was 237% higher than the national average
4. Violent crimes in Memphis are 506% higher than the national average
5. Nearly 250 murders, half unsolved

Husband is a real gentleman for letting his wife run around such a town solo at 4 a.m.

Men do not control adult women. At least not in healthy relationships.

Why do you people keep saying he should have kept her inside, let she was his pet or CHILD?!

Because she’s not single. She’s married. And that means he gets to have an opinion about her activities, just as she gets to have one about his.

Maybe he agreed with it? What does it matter?

Someone said she could have just run at the multi million dollar D1 university. Please let me know what university allows non students to use their facilities. If they did, imagine the complaints on the college board from the harpies here.

People are asking how the alleged perp was out of jail. He served his time. If he had constantly was being harassed by the cops, the race baiting warriors on here would be screaming racism, corrupt cops, failure in the Justice system.

Finally those who were so sure the husband did it and he was guilty because he lawyered up…you NEVER EVER want to talk to the cops in an investigation like this would a lawyer! Ever! Cops while not all corrupt, just want a collar.

The victim blaming and shaming on this thread is pathetic! A bunch of Chairborne rangers so bored and desperate to be heard and are just positive they have it all right and have cracked the case.

What privileged lives you lead. No one posting here better never be charged or accused of something as the other lynch mob here will have no mercy and will have you tried and executed before they have had their next bon bon!

His initial srntence was too lenient for a violent crime.

I really don't understand why anyone in our legal system thinks it's okay for him to be released.

Tbh, I think it’s a ploy to get him out and make mistakes/accidentally provide info that will lead them to the body. This guy will be under close surveillance.

Do you think it's likely this guy knows someone who will post 50K for him to get out? They'll be listening to his phone calls from jail, but since he just spent 20 years in prison, he probably knows this.

Seems he had nothing to do with this so let’s not tear apart the poor man dealing with an awful situation.

Watch this 60 clip with the sound off.

Lipstick Alley poster:

“My apologies in advance if this has been touched on but the guy that was arrested did a 20 year bid for kidnapping. The interesting thing is, the man that was kidnapped 20 years ago, was a partner at Eliza’s uncle’s law firm. This uncle is the same person that made the statement on the news. Almost like this is what the kidnapper is paid to do. I can’t see this being a revenge plot for the suspect because the lawyer that he kidnapped passed away over a decade ago.”

Wtf?! The uncle above is a lawyer at the same law firm the lawyer this man kidnapped worked at 20 years ago?!

Coincidence. Not everything means something. Her mother looks totally gutted. I hope she’s found alive.

I think at that point the family had seen the entire abduction video. They knew that she likely was no longer alive. Remember, the vehicle sat there for four minutes after she was dragged into the car. They know what happened.

So what was the intent? Four minutes doesn’t seem long enough to rape and kill her. If he just killed her, it feels more likely he was paid to do that, right?

I also can’t get over all the mean posts about her. And such lack of understanding of what happens in wealthy families. The grandfather started a hardware store. Of course there is going to be an expectation that the grandkids to be productive members of specify. Being a kindergarten teacher is a wonderful, helpful, productive job.

I am caught up in this as well, I don’t understand

Four minutes is more than enough to kill someone, unfortunately.

A husband has a duty to PROTECT his wife and children from harm. It’s not like he was away on a business trip, he’s a tattooed layabout who is home every morning and watched his wife leave at 4am solo to roam the streets of a war zone with practically no clothes on. The husband is a lowlife.

+1. I think you need to look at the crime level around the areas where she was running. Also, what time are the crimes generally occurring? Writing the entire city of Memphis off as "dangerous" at all times is likely wrong. D.C, NYC, Chicago are also generally be deened "dangerous," yet there are non-dangeroys people out enjoying these cities after dark and before sunrise.

If the billionaire in-laws thought he was worth a damn he wouldn’t be wasting his working prime at boat dealership. They’d groom him for corporate life, like the Woody Allen movie Match Point.

What are you talking about? The granddaughter was not involved in the business. So why would her husband be given a job? You have to stop watching so much tv. It’s a hardware business that is family owned. The business had 3 billion in revenues. Operating margin at Home Depot are 15%. The grandfather co-ran the business with other people. This means there are other family members, the business is not liquid and the grandfather is not a billionaire. He may be worth a few million. She is not an heiress.

I’m just bumping this smart post about the money angle.

It’s actually pretty inaccurate. If someone has 50% of a business w/ those revs and the small amount of debt it has, they are not worth just a few million unless they have been giving away millions annually and not investing anything.

Something tells me that you don’t know what revenue means.

Thanks but I work in private equity so just out of curiosity pulled up all the debt on the company. Assuming even lower than average margins than public comps for that industry it’s pretty easy to come up with a ballpark valuation. Using the debt numbers I found I can ballpark rough cash flows. Didn’t want to spend more than 5 mins

Let’s try blaming the guy that did it vs the victim and the husband. There’s 1 person responsible, him.

My sister about 20 years ago was mugged running around her college campus early in the morning. The city police quite literally blamed her, were openly mocking her for being so stupid, and told her to stop running alone and so early unless she had a death wish.

The only reason this is getting the press it is and the law enforcement manpower (on a holiday weekend they immediately ran DNA on his shoes!) is because her family is filthy rich and politically connected. Otherwise these apathetic city police departments wouldn’t give a damn. There are probably hundreds of missing women in that region who didn’t get even 1% of this sort of response.

Especially how the violent crime in Memphis is simultaneously 237% and 506% higher than the national average.

Yes, one guy to blame--a violent repeat criminal. Because people with violent tendencies and histories are pretty much everywhere and can cause terrible harm, it's best to take precautions to avoid dangerous situations as much as possible. Most people view walking alone at night as especially unsafe.

And for those saying b-but it was on camera, that’s why there’s this manpower: City cops don’t even bother checking camera footage for most crimes. They do not care. If this was a poor person they’d tell the family to call them next week if she still doesn’t show.
