Need Advice: Just found out DD (16 yo) is dating a 25 yo

Not sure if she realizes his age (he's in HS w/ her). We don't know the story behind why he's still in HS - we just learned of their dating in the last few weeks. This is her first "boyfriend". DW and I just found out his age online and are in complete shock.

We have to talk with her this evening. Please tell me what you would say/do.

If he is actually in HS, maybe it is a fake birthday online. This doesn't make sense. Students usually can't be in school past 21.

Yes. Even students with an IEP can only stay in school until 22.

Agree. Even kids with special needs or special circumstances (a refugee who is trying to make up years of missed schooling, for example) only get a few extra years. I would check to make sure that the online info is correct before freaking out (which I certainly would if my 16 year old was dating a 25 year old!).

Redfin thinks I'm an 83yo homeowner from two towns over. I'd personally be a bit suspicious of information you're finding online, especially about a high school student.

You can't just believe some random online directory. The information there is collected by robot software and it's very frequently incorrect.

It's also true that no high school would allow a 25 year old to attend. There are separate programs for adults who are seeking a high school degree.

Well, if you think they might have had sex, I'd probably call the police. Although I really don't see how a 25 year old is allowed to go to high school. Are you sure the guy online is the same guy your daughter is seeing? Could it be someone else with the same name? Have you met your daughter's boyfriend? Does he seem 25?

After that you have to use other venues to get your diploma.

OP, how do you know his age? If it was Facebook keep in mind many kids lied about their birthdays so they could create an account before they were 13. FB makes it really hard to change your birth year do he probably just left the old one and thinks it's funny.

The only online sources that I'd believe would references to him attending high school in a school newspaper from 10 years ago. Something like school newspaper articles about the football team, debate team, whatever.

How do you know his age?
