There is another thread on this in Health and Medicine. |
I'm starting tomorrow. I am totally out of shape. I'll let you know how it goes
|
| I'd love some more feedback. Thanks for the link but no real info. |

I love it! It is a great workout and every workout is different. I go twice a week and while i haven't lost much weight (and I do have weight to lose) I am in better shape than I have been in in very long time. I will admit that I did not love my first class. Then I tried another free class 6 months later and loved it.
As for the HR monitor thing... it's a little gimmicky. They use a formula to figure out max HR and it is not an exact science. Some people naturally have higher or lower max HRs. Which can be frustrating if you focus a lot on the number of "splat points"/min in orange zone (>84% max HR) you get per class. For example, I am pretty sure my max HR is actually much lower than their formula so I have a hard time getting into orange where other's likely have a higher max HR and are in orange most of the class. In the end it doesn't matter much though. as long as you know you are working and pushing really hard. anything else you want to know? |
I'd love to hear your experience! |
I am the above poster who loves OTF.. when I started 10 months ago I was very out of shape. On the treadmill my base pace was at most 5mph and I would often need to walk after a push pace when were were suppose to go back to base. Back then i think my push pace was maybe 5.8mph. These days I run the entire treadmill portion, base is 5.4-5.6, push is 6.8-7.2. So a huge improvement. I also credit it for getting me back to running and doing 5-8 mile runs on the weekends. |
Oh another thing I love is that every move can be modified. most coaches give variations so you can make a move easier or harder. If they don't then just ask. One thing I recommend is asking about rowing form. Some coaches are better than others when it comes to teaching proper form and correcting improper form. You can find videos on-line that are very helpful too. |
| Hated it at first because I'm not a runner, but it will whip your butt into shape. I do it a couple of times a week and I've definitely seen my performance and appearance improve. Expensive AF, but it's been worth it. The coaches are overall very good and will keep you motivated. |
| Do you need to run? Can you walk? I have bad knees and prefer not to irritate them. What % of the class is spent on a treadmill? |
You'll spend about half the class on a treadmill, and walking is absolutely an option. The nice thing about the heart rate measurements (even if they're inaccurate and maybe hooey) is that it gives you a sense of what your max effort really is. It may take someone running at 8mph to get orange, while someone else gets there by walking 3.5mph on an incline. You do you. That's why it's scalable. I've been both a jogger and walker due to injury, and it's always been a good workout for me. Plus, the coaches will help you out with scaling options. |
| Thanks! |

So you buy a package that allows for a certain number of times a week? If you are out of town for a month then you just pay for something you do not use?
Do you have to go to the same time each day/week - Like tues, thurs at 5? Or do you just show up - is it flexible? Thanks! |
you can buy a package of 15, etc, or you can do a monthly subscription of like 4 classes during a 30 day period. you pick whatever classes you want. I prefer the subscription. |
you have to reserve a spot. popular times are booked days in advance. |
