| What was your experience? It seems expensive but I've heard it's like having a personal trainer in a way. |
| There are threads about it in the Sports and Fitness forum. |
| Loved it. Had the most trouble with the floor work. I'd do it again it'd it was closer to me. |
| I go 5-6 days a week and I love it. Interval training is the only thing that works for me once I hit 35. |
| I really enjoy it. I would not say that it takes the place of a personal trainer at all but it is a good workout and motivates you for the hour. I go 1 or 2 times a week. |
| How much are monthly membership fees? |
| I like CorePower yoga better, OT gets boring if you do it too often, and I work out 6 days a week. |
In Georgia it's $159 for unlimited and $100 for twice a week. |
| Didn't like it at all. It's like a loud dark club in there and the staff at ours weren't helpful AT ALL. I'm a reasonably fit 39 year old and if I ever asked for a modification they brushed it off. It's a fad and like most fads I'd steer clear |
| Loved it - I pushed harder there than any other class / exercise. I did it 2x week and ran other days. |
| I wouldn't sign up. I have a membership but I wouldn't recommend it. It is overpriced and all you really need is a heart rate monitor that can tell you which heart rate zones you are in. I have the Garmin 620, it measures my max heart rate on it and basis of OTF is to spend at least 12 minutes at 84-91% of that max heart rate. I can adjust the zones for 84-91% of max heart rate on my watch. Also, the only way you can get that heart rate in OTF is by running and if you are in a 3G class, you get even less time on the treadmill. i think you'll be better off going to a body pump class and doing ladders on the treadmill for cheaper. |

I go twice a week and love it. oddly enough I didn't love the very first class i took, but still went back for a second and decided to give it a try. Two years later i still go twice a week.
Yes, it is expensive (DC area $169/month unlimited, $109/8 classes/month, $69/4 classes/month) and yes, you could do a similar workout on your own, but that could be said for just about every workout. Heck you can even get the OTF workouts for free on Reddit. But, for me, the reality is that I rarely push myself this hard when I work out on my own. I love that I can walk into an OTF class not have to think about or plan out my workout; I just go in to get my butt kicked for an hour. I also like that there are classes pretty much every hour from 5am to 8pm and once you sign up you have to cancel at least 8 hrs in advance. It keeps me committed when my alarm goes off. First class is free so give it a try. |
why do you keep your membership then? why aren't you just working out on your own? |
| If you sign up at a location, can you only go to classes at that location, or can you attend classes at any studio in the general area? (Like if you sign up at Ballston, can you go to a class at Rosslyn? Or even DC?) |
+1 - For me, the accountability is priceless. I have a premium membership and have worked out while visiting family in other states and while traveling for my job. I just show up and do the work. |
