Discussion this morning women who wear bikinis that are over 40.

I was surprised at how many women at the table didn't like it and were so judgmental about it. Why do people care?

+1 I am 46. I won't wear one because my skin was stretched so much during my pregnancies to the point where I look like a human charpe, but if you look good wearing one, who cares how old you are.

I saw a pix of Helen Mirren in one. She looked awesome. Some people are so uptight.

Doesn't bother me but I imagine people say it seems a) desperate for attention or b) trying to reclaim youth

That's nuts. I'm just plain green with envy that plenty of women my age (45) and older who look amazing in whatever they choose to wear.

I am 50. I wear a bikini and will do so for the rest of my life. I think that anyone who wants to wear a bikini SHOULD.

Actually, who cares even if you don't look so-called "good"...One of my favorite things about my Jamaican vacations was that all the local people treated you like you were gorgeous no matter what you looked like, how old you were etc.

Well I'll tell you what. I have no idea what you look like obviously but I see a LOT of women > 30 who should really cover up more. No one wants to see your poochy post childbirth belly or cellulite. Or rolls. Or saggy breasts in a string bikini. No ma'm.

Honestly, you should wear what you want and what you feel suits you. Some one piece ladies are not doing the,selves any favors. A personal shopper at Saks old me that if you have a nice waist/hip ratio you should wear a bikini no matter your size.

I have no problem with it, and if anything, I am envious of women 40+ who still can. I would do it in a heartbeat if I could pull it off. And by pull it off, I don't think you have to have a perfect hard body to wear a bikini.

I agree that many women in this area are very harsh critics on this topic, which surprises me considering how liberal the area is.

Americans are prudes, by and large.

I wear adjustable bikinis because it's the only thing that fits. If others don't like it, tough.

41 and only wear bikinis unless I'm lap swimming. I teach fitness classes, I look fine. I'm happy when anyone else FEELS good, so rock on with your bad selves. They are more comfortable and I like having a tan stomach

Attention from who. I wear it because I like it. My husband pays plenty of attention to me.

As far as it being "desperate for attention," in many countries, and in parts of the US, ALL women wear bikinis, not just ones with great bodies. You would gain more attention and stand out like a sore thumb if you wore a one-piece or swim shorts/skirt.
