+1 I am 46. I won't wear one because my skin was stretched so much during my pregnancies to the point where I look like a human charpe, but if you look good wearing one, who cares how old you are.

I saw a pix of Helen Mirren in one. She looked awesome. Some people are so uptight.

Actually, who cares even if you don't look so-called "good"...One of my favorite things about my Jamaican vacations was that all the local people treated you like you were gorgeous no matter what you looked like, how old you were etc.

That's because they were after your visa. The locals were probably snickering.

....or your ability to get them a visa.

Seeing as I was holding my husband's hand walking down the beach, I think not. But you can keep snickering, ill just feel sorry for you that you spend so much energy being a jerk.

I much prefer a bikini for comfort. On a trip that's all I bring but admittedly at a pool event around home (in the USA), I cover up more. The kids get really embarrassed when I don't look like what they think a mom should. It's that age and it doesn't bother me to respect their feelings until they get over themselves. May be your friends were coming from that angle?

Exactly! 45 here and find bikinis to be way more comfortable than a one-piece. I mainly only wear it when on a beach vacation and usually throw on a cover up when walking, etc... I'm fit and my abs are probably my best feature anyway, so why not? Of course, I would not wear it around my MOM... bikini's were taboo in our household.

I'm so jealous that your abs are your best feature. I've got bean pole arms and legs and a pot belly and I just don't feel comfortable in a bikini. I wish I did.

She's never had kids

Depends on the bikini. I have a Speedo that was great for laps when I was pregnant and still is now that I'm not.

There are more important things to be considered about in this world.

I can't believe so many people think bikinis are comfortable. I think they are so uncomfortable! This isn't something that I really care about, but to the extent I do care, I do wish both men and women would cover up more. I think most people don't look as good as they think they do. I'm not super thrilled to see some old guy falling out of his underwear when I'm trying to just have a nice afternoon with my kids. I'm a big fan of the trend of rash guards for both men and women-- very practical and most people look better in them.

Wow. I don't give AF what women decide to wear. I like women who swim with their kids though.

It's easier for me to use the bathroom at the pool with the kids all day. I don't give a flying hoot.

If you have the body for a bikini, go for it. I don't care how old you are. I don't wear them because my kids still hang on me in the pool and I'm afraid they will pull them down. Otherwise, I find them more comfortable.

I truly don't get how bikinis are more comfortable than a one piece.

Then look away.

envy, jealousy, secretly wishing they had the bodies to be able to pull it off (or rather, to be attractive enough that a guy was willing to tear if off)
