Is there a way to get a welfare check to make sure this child is ALIVE and well cared for?

Actually I’ve seen a lot of messages of support as well.

You have to dig through a lot of rage and sadness to find those.

Maybe with enough complaints the state, CPS or someone will investigate. There is a woman named Sophie Ross who seems to be closely following Huxley through all of this. She was the one that confirmed he was in foster care and waiting to be adopted. Also, Steph Mcneal from BuzzFeed is trying to find out exactly how Myka and James Stauffer found an individual to give him to.

What would be better for the child, should the adoptive parents keep his name Huxley or offer him a new name to protect his privacy / identity? He is all over the internet, people where he lives now will see an Asian nonverbal child with the name Huxley and know immediately who he is... I know he is not a dog to be named whatever but I do wonder what is in his long term interest. Anyone have ideas about that?

The name they gave him is horrible, anyways. His new parents should legally change it.

Honestly, does it matter? Who cares if their is an Asian Austin kid named Huxley. Are people going to stop and take pictures and ask for his autograph? Probably not...

The name is the least of the issues. Most families who adopt change their kids names. I only know of a few families who either kept the first/middle name given or did a joint name with the birth parents if that was an option, which is what we did.

It doesn't sound like he was in foster care but either placed via a private agency in one of their "foster homes" or what ever term you want to use until a family was found. If there is a private agency involved they will be monitoring it. I doubt CPS will get involved (based off personal experience).

I hope a reporter investigates to find out who has this boy and then runs a backgroun check on the family.

The courts will not care. If the new family adopts, the court will require a home study and a few home visits in order to adopt, hopefully but it depends on the court.

But, a background check just says the family doesn't have past arrests or child welfare issues. And you can easily pretend during a home study to look like the perfect family and pass.

Why not? It reflects his culture, heritage and if his birth mom gave it to him, its the only thing left he has. My child has a name from their culture. Why wouldn't you?
