YouTube Influencer Myka Stauffer "rehomes" adopted son

Google "second chance adoption"

It's horrifying how much abuse there is in these situations.

WTF is wrong with these people.

Despicable. Honestly, I think the parents just want to live that "easy breezy Influencer life" and Huxley was a major drag getting in the way of it. So they booted him like you would with a dog that's badly behaved.

I saw this comment on her page and I agree that they handled this so badly. Basically, it sounds like they adopted him for extra clicks on social media and used him as a prop the whole time he was with them. "Adopt, don't shop" ?? WTF

"He's been on camera since day one. He has had no privacy. His medical information has been used for clickbait videos.

They didn't follow any advice given to them about how to help a child adapt to a new family without re-traumatizing them further. No cocooning. Introducing to family members very early on. Speaking purely English and changing his name immediately. They brought the entire family to China and treated it like a holiday, not caring about the fact it would likely overwhelm any child. They were given the option to stop the adoption and were aware that his medical issues were largely unknown. They spoke at length about how his medical files did not seem accurate and should have known, with research, that adoptions from abroad and particularly China carry this risk. She said herself that "anything can happen" with international adoptions. I do not think anyone would have judged them for disrupting the adoption as soon as they realized it may be more than they can cope with but instead they spouted cliche, "he's found his forever home." They tagged pictures of him on social media with adopt, don't shop.https://i.imgur.com/lM1u9gi.png

Why are you allowed to do this with adopted children? They're piling trauma on top of trauma on that little boy.

How many homes has he been in? In a prior video, they mention that he was in a foster home in China so that's two (give up by his birth parents, Chinese foster parent, then their house, then a few other houses, and now his "forever" family? Until they get sick of him??)

People do place their biological kids with disabilities for adoption. It is definitely something that's allowed.

As a parent of a child with severe special needs, I have to disagree with the idea that many parents' lives are "basically ruined".

I know nothing about this family or their motives but parents should do what's best for the child. If these people bit off more than they could chew and weren't able to manage his needs, maybe this was the best of some really bad options. Just because they made mistakes doesn't mean they should keep failing the kid since they made this commitment (if that's what was happening).

You might not feel that way but many do. I see it mentioned in articles and even on here all the time - how it leads to people having to give up their jobs, it ruins their marriage, leads to divorce, other kids are effected, etc. But still, the point is, they don't give up on their kids even if it's hard.

But it's never easy to talk about, and the public never ever likes hearing about it.

When a family is not capable of raising a child and does not want the child, nothing good comes from forcing that family to keep the child. I know people who have re-homed children and I had a child who came to us after being re-homed more than once. I can't speak to what happened with the other children who were re-homed, but I can say that my child is one of the best things that happened in our family. My child may not have been successful with the other families, but they are well loved and successful with us. I can't imagine any other life.

I can only imagine that, after going through so much to adopt, it must be extremely difficult to make this decision.

Eh, I don't think this is true in their case. They raised the money from her followers. She mentioned at one point that it cost them nothing after the fundraiser. Then they used the trip to China as content on their YouTube channel and treated it like a family vacation. So that was also a money maker in the end.

She's deleting a lot of the old videos so people can't call them out of their shitty parenting (of which there are many examples - for instance, they refused to let poor Huxley suck his thumb for comfort and wrapped it in duck tape). But I think the original adoption videos are still up.

This is so true. He will be better off in the long run. Doesn't make these people any less gross though. Now they can go back to their perfect little family of just bio kids. Ick

Some screenshots that Myka posted about Huxley. She sounds so calculating about it all. It really sounds like he was a prop in their social media empire.

What? No. This is not a thing people are just allowed to do. When you have a bio kid with SN, if your life is "ruined", too bad so sad in our society.
