I do wish there was more support for the kids coming from the immigrant and low income communities in Herndon.

Does it makes sense for the current situation where many students attend Langley at 16 miles from their houses when they actually live between 3-6 miles from HHS?

Does it make sense for parents who don't live in Great Falls to obsess over how long our children are on the bus or in the car?

Worry about yourself. We're good over here.

Well, if you're "good" with bussing kids 16+ miles, then you'll be even better if we go ahead and bus Herndon apartment kids to Langley! Hell, it's less than 16 miles away.

It was a split feeder that they thought needed to be closed because only a certain number of students were being sent to Lee. But, like Daventry, part of the reason the number was relatively small was because parents from those neighborhoods had been pupil placing out. So there you have it - get enough of your neighbors to pupil place out of your school and then you can just ask your School Board member to get an administrative boundary change done through the Superintendent. It is a insidious process that can crush the lower income schools.

Now I understand what the staff member was talking about the other night at the work session. Didn't know they were already doing that!

That should tell them why all schools should be AP.

DP. Has it occurred to you that there is a big difference of doing this?

1. The Great Falls people want their children to go to Langley and can handle transportation when it is not available.
2. Doubtful that the Herndon Apt families want their kids to go to Langley. And, transportation outside of school hours would be very difficult. Also, it should not surprise you to know that some of those kids likely have jobs in Herndon after school or assist with childcare for families and neighbors. (In fact, this is a reason that truancy is a problem--watching younger siblings.)

3. Those 'apt" kids are walkers to Herndon Middle school.

Oh I so sure you REALLY care about them

You care soooo much! If you actually cared about these kids, it would be much better for them to go to Langley. MUCH better. It's not an ideal commute, but it's better than what they're getting now.

But let's be honest pp, you don't really care about anyone or anything other than yourself and your property values.

No. We live in a neighborhood that is zoned for a very different high school from Herndon or Langley.
However, I have taught really poor kids like those in Herndon and understand why this would not work.

I can also look at maps. I do think it is best for the community for kids to go to the closest school. But, I can also see that Langley would need to be closed if we did that. Now, I have no problem with closing Langley--except that McLean and Herndon could not absorb the extra bodies.

I am grateful that we live close to our high school and hope no one tries to send us elsewhere like they did when they sent Chantilly kids to Oakton. Those kids lived within 3 milies --less than ten minutes from Chantilly and were sent miles and miles away during the South Lakes redistricting. Why? Because South Lakes took Oakton kids, so Oakton had to have more. Same reason that Great Falls kids go to Langley.

DP here. If Herndon is so bad, you really should have spoken up before FCPS started spending millions to increase its capacity to 2500. But you didn’t, so maybe you need to put a lid on it. There are other schools that are only getting a fraction of the attention and money that Herndon is getting.

What the pp said is true. Herndon gets far more resources than other FCPS schools.

Sending the "apt kids" as some kindly phrased it would drop out of Langley in about two weeks. Think " Lord of the Flies".

That's what I think of when I hear "Langley," and that's even w/out the "apt kids."

Now you are bashing herndon because it gets too many resources? Seriously. Get a life. Find a new hobby.

Herndon is a non factor.

No one was thinking about Herndon until it was claimed that Herndon gets no help from FCPS due to Langley bullies.

A little research reveals that Herndon gets plenty of attention so that is highlighted.

Doing such is not bashing Herndon

Yelling and screaming about how much Herndon sucks and throwing tantrums about sending poor Herndon kids somewhere else is bashing.
