Where are you reading they’re caving? Schumer can’t have a 10 day CR. There’s no option to amend the CR that’s on the table without the House voting and they’re out until 10/6

Politico was reporting senate dems being ok with just starting negotiations on the healthcare issues. That seems like a pretty soft ask.

Why are they asking for emergency covid subsidies to be extended? Its so odd, they should negoiate something of value this make them look so dumn and missing the point. They should be fighting for re-instating rif'd workers and other things people can get behind on.

It’s sick.

No one is losing their job that wouldn't otherwise lose their job. If Trump and the agency head want you gone, you're going to be gone regardless of whether or not the Democrats cave right now.

Disagree-the doge cuts were haphazard and weren’t tied to program proposed to elimination by the Admin. My agency already went through the doge cuts. Now in a shut down and per the memo, they’ll want to cut programs that they want to get rid of-problem is that once the govt is funded, ppl need to be around to administer those programs so they wouldnt cut them under normal circumstances if the govt were funded. Now they just won’t care bc Vought will have ultimate control. The executive branch will have full power of the purse.

The situation is far worse than you apparently realize. Part of the current fight is over impoundment. Basically, the president refusing to administer funded programs in the budget. Trump is already doing this, and will do more of it unless the Democrats can negotiate concessions.

If your program isn't liked by Trump, you aren't going to like what happens if the Democrats cave.

I’m the PP. I think based on what I wrote I know exactly how bad it is going to get. That’s the point I’m trying to make. The programs that survived the Doge cuts at my agency are now going to get obliterated.

Ah yes, just what we need. Air safety ensured by a for-profit company that wins as the lowest bidder and is upended by a new company every five years. What could possibly go wrong with that?

At this point, can we name a private sector company that is favorable to consumers, not just shareholders? I am in Europe right now on vacation and I feel terrible about America. The vibe here is so… calm. We have let companies destroy the country.

Why do you think it is odd to seek to continue a program that successfully boosted health insurance coverage?

They might. But it will be even worse if the Democrats cave.

People need to renew their insurance in the next couple of months and want to know how much they’ll be paying. Yes, it was a Covid subsidy but it helped people get health insurance that they now won’t be able to afford. I guess they think fighting for healthcare is something neutral that voters will support.

Completely this.

Entire IRS will keep working for 5 days of a shutdown. Would seem more prudent to keep certain functions going longer and let others be furloughed no?

They cut programs that were funded before the end of the year. They will cut programs that are funded after. They don’t follow the rules. They don’t need a shutdown to continue doing what they’ve been doing.

And now in this furlough we can use our govt laptops…to check to see if we’ve been fired.

I think you somehow believe that “survived the DOGE cuts” = “survive the administration.” Why would you think that? If there are programs the administration doesn’t like, the government staying open won’t save them anymore than the programs that were already cut.
