I would reach out to TSJ and fill them in. Maybe they have not been following along. People who don't have kids at FCPS or who have young kids might not be paying attention. Did you all notice that Apostle Karen changed her STJ profile pic and her title is gone? Hmmmm.....

Stop with that. They know. You think employers don't vet their hires at all??? A 2 second Google search on his name brings up a mountain of information on the Hayfield scandal. Plus, their business is youth sports - you think they really haven't heard about everything that went down? They know who he is and are banking on all of his rabid fan base to follow him to STJ. And they either don't care or are naive to the notion that in 1-3 years, he'll screw them over too and leave them worse off than they are now.

A close friend of mine works at TSJ, they know exactly what they're getting.

Yuck. Good Luck to them.

Oh- I am sure they know.

He’s on their website for the St. James academy. Which is like a sports academy with academics via Virginia virtual - so it’s sports + virtual high school.

Essentially- it’s going to be the IMG of VA. And with zero school boundaries or ethical oversight, it’s going to be a juggernaut.

Nonsense. The demographics of kids that play tackle football here in northern virginia AND the demographics of people who would pay 30k/year for a sports private school basically do not overlap at all. They will not have enough PAYING customers to make this profitable.

Yeah, not to be rude, but you are 1000% wrong. IMG spent decades building its campus (including dorms and academic buildings) as it became a huge for-profit tennis training center. They only expanded out into other sports when they had the field space, facilities, funding and gravitas to sustain funding. The St James has none of that. It is going to flame out spectacularly.

Apparently St James Academy is an outpost of the TPH Academy, a growing national rival to IMG. According to the website, TPH grads go on to ivy league schools like Harvard, Brown, etc. It’ll be interesting to see how the St James’ Academy grows. But I doubt it will appeal to many families until classes are taught in person.

If that were the case, so many people wouldn’t be sending their kids to WCAC, IAC, and even a couple MAC schools to be part of the football programs at those schools.

Free? I don’t think so unless the kid is a difference maker and his parents can’t afford it. And most of those kids are paying at least a fraction of the cost.

Looking at the WCAC, MIAA, and various trainers I would slightly disagree. Its nuts how much money goes into football (for an area that does NOT care about high school football) and with 7 on 7 fully taking off in the area its only going to get worse. Plenty of kids have football trainers, camps, weekly sessions etc.

What a comically terrible take. WCAC, IAC, and MAC schools have facilities, good academics, massive pools of financial aid money... Seriously, sit this one out.

From the schools and recruitment successes, looks to me that TPH grew out of the hockey world. That’s not football.

DP here.

I actually think you are wrong- I think Overton has a cult like following at this point. The parents were willing to commit fraud and will probably spend the money to do this.

I know it seems delusional for us to assume to this to be the case- but these aren’t normal people we’re dealing with here.
