Hayfield Football Coach Fired

It's my understanding, the majority, if not all, of the playing time went to the traveling show players of Overton. Most of those kids will likely go back to PWC or the STJ scam.

What you will have left is a smaller ( in numbers) of kids who have little to no game experience for over a year, or kids who have never played at all. Another local team destroyed (Freedom being the other)by him as he moves on to his next "project."

Thank, Darryl. It's clear you care about the institutions you are/were a part of, and "The Fam."

This is now two programs Overton has destroyed. Good coaches leave programs stronger than the ones they inherited. Overton does the opposite.

I'm the PP from a few pages back who asked how this guy still has a job. No one has given an answer, probably because there isn't one.

It's pretty obvious Thompson puts himself above the children he is supposed to serve. It is shocking he still has a job.

Agree. When is this enabler getting fired?

What can we (Hayfield parents) do about it??

Speculation here from months back is he will be promoted to gatehouse at end of year. The direct report of Reid that was responsible for oversight of 400+ hour 1st FCPS investigation that found everyone worthy of Reid’s full support will just keep where is, no reprimand.

In their district they can be pretty bad and still win games. The baseline participation level at Hayfield is much higher than at Freedom.

As though Overton was a long-time coach who was a respected part of the Hayfield community for decades instead of someone who is primarily responsible for embarassing FCPS and Hayfield and causing untold strife for those actual Hayfield students who wanted to play for their school and were pushed out.

That principal is showing he has no principles. Character is supposed to count -- but I guess the fact that the principal is still there says something about how much character counts at FCPS.

Thompson is a clown, a total buffoon with no sense of the shame he’s brought upon Hayfield. It’s only because we have a complete idiot of a superintendent in Michelle Reid that this guy is still in any position of authority at Hayfield.

FCPS doesn’t like to fire principals. The county has principles who are much worse.

Great article! Let’s hope the claims of Thompson leaving soon are true.

This seems like a big one. STJ has their one field divided into four each chock full of paying customers doing other sports. Is STJ really going to just give up that field every afternoon for practice. You also have the weight room - do people paying premium rates for a gym really want to lift with a fake high school football team?

The feature of the “academy” is it allows the field to be monetized between 8 and 4 when it is currently empty. The Football team will be off by 4 pm when the other sports arrive.

Bring back coach Aziz?

Obviously Hayfield takes a lot of crap and deservedly so over the Overton situation, but how do people feel about schools with lazy athletic directors who allow bad coaches to preside over HS sports programs that under-perform year after year?

Do you just shrug because it’s HS sports or would you actually expect them to find better coaches?

50% of all programs will "under perform" by the nature of athletics. Someone wins and someone losses every time no matter the quality of coaching. Athletic directors should be concerned with playing by the rules, displaying proper character, and the student athletes having a meaningful and positive experience. If a coach is meeting those requirements there is no need to make a change.

Regarding Thompson, you heard it here first. He will be sent to West Springfield to be their new Principal. Just wait and see.
