How exactly is prepping "discriminating" based on race? Again, these arguments are arguing affluence can make a difference. It is not skin color that is making a difference. It is still ra ace-blind test and you are insulting Black and Hispanic students assuming they can't perform as well as Asians students. |
cool, FCPS is correcting for affluence. They have realized that the test is a proxy for the parent's ability to to fund prepping and that the rest of the resume is a proxy for parental wealth. |
Don't be absurd. The past year has shown us how incompetent FCPS is, so let's not pretend even for a moment that they possess the skill set internally to "correct" an admissions process that was already complicated by making it even more subjective and complicated. They will make a hash of it, just like they do with most things, but it will satisfy the SJWs as long as it leads to a reduction in the number of Asian kids attending TJ, especially a reduction in the number of students coming from Carson, Cooper, Longfellow, and Rocky Run. |
That's the better argument. If they would also require that the race and gender of the applicant be left off the application, you might actually get some Asians on board with the proposal. |
Its hard for some people to admit that Asians tend to be really smart, regardless of test prep. |
In some ways, yes. In other ways, no. One thing that seems consistent among that population is an insistence on a narrow definition of “smart” that includes only that which is in books. There’s a general lack of recognition that anything else can fall into the category of “smart”. |
I gotta hear this. Please define "smart" for us. And tell us how everyone is "special" in their own way. |
I disagree. Yes, they perform well with "books", as you say. They also run successful businesses in a variety of fields and excel in a variety of career areas. They also have strong family units. They're "not insisting on a narrow definition of smart." |
how would we ever know |

What does it matter? TJ is for people who are book smart, motivated, interested, and creative at math and science. If whatever race of people focus on those goals, they will likely get in more than others. I don't think there is anything innate in asians than other races. I think these are priorities for them. |
Democrats have been pushing these changes to keep down the number of Asians. They voted to defund schools that discriminate against Asians. No Democrats voted for the measure. |
Not if geography is being used as a proxy for race. LCPS got around this by having in their presentation of the changes a slide that said 'Geography is not being used as a proxy for race." The distribution of Asians in Loudoun schools suggests otherwise. Though after they implemented per school minimum quotas, several Asians moved to western Loudoun for the year. Or pretended to with the distance learning. |
Sure particularly for Indians. Sports is not a priority, and you can generally expect they will show up late, miss games, and not inform the coach if they are missing a game. |
| Heard the judge today denied FCPS’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation challenging the TJ admissions change. |
