There were about 60 kids on the field, and none of them had numbers, so I’m wondering how the coaches are keeping track of everyone. One coach asked my daughter for her name once, but that was it. We still haven’t heard anything back, and today’s tryouts were canceled.

Just curious if anyone else has received any updates?

You are very unlikely to hear an actual "decline" from a club. Most will just leave families hanging indefinitely.

Is that the norm from your experience or what you’ve heard from others? It’s good to know if clubs actually follow up with a decline or just ghost you, and you take the hint.

Half as many as FVU. Unsure about talent.

This is a lie. VDA had about 60 and FVU had about 50. Stop lying just to prop up VDA
Not a lie, was there. easily 80-100 kids. Most of the kids there play on first teams and are from a variety of clubs around the area.

So about 60 first team players from around the area? That’s like half of all the players on all of the teams.
About 22 kids per field and three fields running at the same time. 2013 and 2014s. Most were high level players.

Sounds like a mess. How are the girls supposed to show their skill in an environment that cramped?

Do you think they already knew who they wanted before these tryouts from seeing kids at other practices, etc?

Have they started giving out offers?
Tryouts for top teams are a fraud. Kids soft offers going into them. They miss alot of kids because of it.

Honestly I have heard tryouts are a formality for many kids. You guys?

You are correct. Clubs have an idea of who they want BEFORE the tryout. More than likely, they have been in contact with the coach before hand an even attended of few of their practices. Clubs still hold tryouts just in case the next Trinity Rodman were to show up and they don't want to miss on that opportunity.

If you have not gotten an offer yet, I would not be freaking out. Every single club in the DMV is trying to send out early offers with a couple hundred dollar deposits. Tons of there will be multiple spots opening up over the next 3 months. I have multiple friends who moved s in August from one top team to another. Don't ever feel like you have to make a decision in February and stick to it moving forward into the next year. That doesn't start until August.

Check with the club though. Some clubs will hold you to the full year payment if you accept an offer now. It literally pays to ask the question.

Late to the game, and DC is currently playing at a small club, but decent travel team. Where are the best places to look if we're just starting to explore now? Top teams probably aren't what we are ready to commit to, and probably still needing more development for that anyway.
We're looking for the next step, from a NCSL top divison team.

What city, state do you live in and what age and gender is your DC? -What is your current club? Do you have a team level?
Come back to this thread and answer those questions and you might get some practical advice here.

Also, spring tryouts are coming up, so getting onto a decent NCSL level team could be achievable.

Sorry, that's my bad. I thought posting here in the 2014G thread would have on topic answers. Probably should never assume on this board, huh?

DD will play U13 next year. We're already on NCSL level team (FPYC). I think she'd be a candidate for RL or Aspire, but it sound like those rosters could already be filling out?

Current standings for the 2014 RL teams still playing 9v9. Many of these rosters will need to expand for 11v11 at U13.

Not all of these teams have had tryouts yet.

You’re not too late. It’s the GA/NL rosters that are being set now, and maybe a few slots at Aspire or RL where folks don’t make the top team, but RL only/Aspire only clubs by and large haven’t held tryouts yet and I suspect even the clubs with a national level top team are not yet full at the next level. I think you’ll see more tryouts posted for mid to late March for that level after this spate of tournaments.

Yes, but if you want to be proactive you could reach out to the 2014 coach at that level at clubs you might be interested in.

No, you're good! Just trying to clarify so this board can help!

I think you would not have a big issue getting into RL and or Aspire. Both levels would be steps in the right direction. Closer to you GFRS & Vienna (competitive) and Valor & BRYC (less competitive) all have ECNL RL teams you could try for. Otherwise, McLean or Alexandra or STJ might be the only (Less Competitive) Aspire options that are will still take players.

Moving into either league would level up your player's game. Both leagues feature a known/ fixed 9 month schedule of games. Bigger tournaments and some away (overnight) trips. Also, a lot of these clubs incorporate 4x days per week of soccer and fitness training. Usually, you will get more dedicated families who are interested in doing more soccer stuff.

Anyone know if all the Arlington offers are out already? Is there still room on that ECNL team?

Not too sound all uppity but if you're a good player, there is always room on an ECNL team. They will just enlarge the roster so keep looking for a spot if that's what your kid wants.
