Threatens to kill police officers, is anrtested.

USAO drops the case to a misdemeanor, then drops the case completely.

Suspect goes on killing spree.

Broken.

I hope his family files a wrongful death lawsuit. Cunningham could have been apprehended without using lethal force. These out-of-control police departments need to be reined in.

They probably will. Grifters and low lives tend to cluster as do the "advocates" angling for a share.

This is who gets MY sympathy along with the poor man shot in the head and in grave condition, while picking his wife up from work on K St. NW during rush hour.

“They gave up the keys and, for whatever reason, the guy still shot him and ended up killing my son,” his mother, Antoinette Walker, said. Vasquez’s parents called the crime senseless.
“You just kill him over a car?” his father asked. Vasquez is survived by two young daughters.

I don't see how a stable society can be maintained when a significant element values those who take lives of innocents over their the lives and well being of innocent victims. Security and public order is a primary tenant of civilized societies. Maslow's hierarchy of needs puts safety at the bottom. That the criminal worshiping element appears to control the government here is extremely concerning. They certainly are loud voices on social media as well.

His little girls are so young, it's an absolute tragedy. And terrifying that you can hand over keys and be murdered or stabbed anyway, that seems to be increasing. The false sense that you would be a "cooperative victim" appears to often not matter.

Is there a name for this new religion of deification of the criminal element?

This could be Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, Van Ness or Chevy Chase DC.

Not very "welcoming" of those who would support local businesses, eh? Or of those businesses who are an important part of the DC tax base/revenue stream. SMH.

Stevie Wonder saw this coming. DC is becoming less appealing to live in, work or visit. Who will pay for all the bike lanes and vouchers when revenues drop? Clearly that trajectory is not only continuing but accelerating. And DC is an outlier re: trends in other cities, even nearby Baltimore.

Only reason the above can't be about Cathedral Commons, Georgetown or Tenleytown is the mention of Connecticut Ave.

The guy who assaulted the daycare teachers may still be held in PIW but clearly that publicized incident has not spurred a change re: prevention of such.

Maybe if the restaurant manager would feed the unhoused they wouldn't be so belligerent. Maybe he would be up for a Nobel Peace prize like Andrès, instead of hoarding his profits.

You mean get grants from the city to run a feeding program? Many churches do that? Why should restaurants, with thin margins, step into that space, rather than say paying their WORKERS better?
You don't think that "idea" would attract MORE vagrants and mentally ill from around the city and region? Andres has many businesses, the restaurants on Connecticut have significantly less resources. Andres sets up feeding centers when there are natural disasters, he's not running ongoing programs for the "unhoused."

The "unhoused" is a never ending group as people travel to DC for the vouchers and other benefits, or to escape CA's increased involuntary commitment. Most jurisdictions will pay to transport one way. So, DC should feed the vagrants, addicts and mentally ill for the whole US and that burden should fall on private businesses?

Do the DSA keyboard warriors all have their bills paid by their parents? Is this the reason they see money streams as inexhaustible? If small restaurants become feeding programs, in your "utopia" who will want to go and pay to eat there? Much like many are moving out of buildings that have been converted in large part to private public housing/half way houses/shelters. The businesses will close or relocate, what then? Will the shell of the former tax paying business be opened to squatters? Maybe watch "Trainspotting" and educate yourself PP, step away from the cult think and hive mind and into reality.

DC Crime Facts has given us a much richer understanding of the "criminal justice ecosystem" and helped spur Congressional hearings, but has anything really changed? Seems inevitable that s/he will be unmasked, like the late UnsuckDCMetro. Appreciate his/her efforts and graphs. It has brought a lot of info to light, like the low prosecution rate (may be lowest in US), that Bowser and the Council knew about for YEARS without a peep out of them.

You have this all so backwards. What about the young gentleman who now stands accused of this so-called crime?

Why wasn’t he provided with wrap around services? Why should his life be ruined now too??

I hope this is sarcasm. Hard to tell on this board.

The USAO prosecution rate is not improving

“His office actually charged fewer cases last quarter (October-December 2023) and prosecutions remain significantly below the pre-COVID average,” Joe Friday wrote, adding: “This low prosecution rate is without any known precedent in other major American cities or even DC’s recent past.”

“The fact that prosecutions decreased in Q4 2023 goes against the optimistic narrative that USA Graves spun at his October 2023 press conference,” the anonymous blogger wrote. “While the official narrative boiled down to ‘prosecutions increased because we solved longstanding problems;’ the actual prosecution volumes correspond much more with the media schedule.”
