Depends on the state school. UVA is the best school in the South, so it probably is.

In terms of UofM, your friends are clearly not in engineering.

+1 Depends on your major.

The vast majority of comparable majors/disciplines at Michigan are either equal to or most often ranked higher than UVA. In my social circle when top academic schools are mentioned, Michigan is often brought up. UVA is never discussed, except as a southern party school.

Which south are we talking about? The one with Duke, Vandy, Rice and Emory?

I'm waiting for the Rhodes Scholar VA booster to appear.

I see UCB and UCLA ranked above Dartmouth. I think you’re the one with the problem.

Vandy, Rice, and Emory all trended down this year, UVA trended up and isn't stopping anytime soon. Duke is just a basketball school.

My smartest and most innovative employees graduated from schools I have never heard of until I saw their resumes. Many companies aren’t paying as much attention to the school as you think.

UMD gives alot of aid to First Gen, Low income, and URM. This is why they have risen so much in the rankings.

This isn’t about UMD?

"we don't care about what the companies are looking for. We just want them to have a love of learning. How can they get that at large flagships."

That’s all they got left at the moment. Even KF at UNC is ranked higher than UVA McIntire, now that the latter has dropped 4 spots to number 12.

What is up with the uva boosters?
Outta control.
nova resident who is grateful we have so many great universities but really!

Unc is a way harder admit oos.
UofM has way better engineering.
Lots of pros and cons of each but get over yourselves.
We’re proud of your DC with their 4.whatever but there is no such thing as a public Ivy.
Going to school with majority of kids from your own state is just a diff experience.

dp.. I think the UMD poster is giving an example of why a college could have gone up in the ranks.

Someone posted in another thread that the pell grant factor was only an extra .5% in the ranking. I don't know if that's true.

UVA trended up to the #5 public.

It’s obvious that a troll is deliberately trying to make UVA look bad.
