Oakton crash

Every single news report has stated that charges will be filed against the BMW driver, who was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, and that the Toyota driver did nothing wrong, had stopped and waited for the girls to clear the intersection, and then began to turn once the road was clear. That driver could not see nor could he have anticipated the BMW coming around the curve at that speed. But good to know you’re 100% sure who’s responsible.

Will his identity be released? Anyone here have kids that know who it was? Anyone call BMW at Tyson’s corner and say you’ll buy a car if the rep tells who bought it?[/quote]

JFC, this has to be a freaking joke. Call the BMW dealership and pretend you'll buy a BMW in exchange for information? Insane, if real. Unfunny, if a joke.

Everyone will know the name soon enough. Your craving for it now now now is pathetic and a kind of sick voyeurism--IF this post is for real.

Yes it was a joke. Relax.

Like congrats your daughter goes to Oakton, we absolutely needed that input.

Yes, there is a term for it. It's called empathy.

Right, now people expressing empathy are attacked because they feel sad. Oakton/Vienna HS is a crowded residential area and lots of people travel through Blake ln everyday. The memorial is right there, it’s a reminder to everyone of us who drive/ride/walk on that street everyday that a tragedy happened there. We don’t have the right to express that sadness?? And yeah that empathy helps raise funds for the impacted families. It’s a good thing. Please don’t trash on other people’s feeling.

I’m just saying, you can express empathy and sadness without having to state how close you live or work etc. No one cares, it’s not important. It doesn’t make you more special or in the know to live by the intersection. It just looks weird when people are commenting things like I drive on that road! Is this a popularity contest?

So many people walk on this road for exercise. I very rarely do because the sidewalk is so close to the road and the cars fly by. It really is unnerving. Short of narrowing the lanes I can’t think of what they can do. So many houses practically sit on the roadway. Bad design all around.

They fled because tbey have underdeveloped frontal lobes. Same reason the dumb kid thought his actions were a good idea. If I had a teenage boy I’d buy him an old station wagon. Hard to to play cool guy in a beater station wagon. Idiot parents. Idiot kid.

Thank you - this is valuable input. What was weird and grief porn vibes was everyone immediately jumping to claim their proximity

I don’t live anywhere the crash site, but understand where those posters are coming from. It’s especially shocking and horrible when a tragedy happens close to home. The proximity makes it all too real. I think it’s similar to recalling where you were when you were when 9/11 happened—a defining moment in a way. A wake up call to how close we are to tragedy at any given moment. Our vulnerability and the randomness of fate. Very human reaction, IMO.

What is also weird is everyone here being so excited to give their opinions on how this all happened as if they were CSI experts, car experts or whatever, if you use the same logic. While people here want to express their sense of social justice, people there expressed their empathy. People have connected through that VF post and started to put together a strategy to get VDOT to act. To think that there are people here trash talking them behind their back. Jeez! Pathetic.

No one’s trash talking that or fundraising or anyone being sad. The only comment made was about how there were so many comments by posters making it all about themselves and having to show off that they know the location.

No. It's called "using someone else's tragedy to attention-seek for yourself."

They fled because they didn't want to be incriminated. They were using the driver for a ride and left him to deal with the deaths alone. Great friends!

Those boys were up to no good!

PS: everyone wants the kid in jail because he KILLED two kids. simple.

I am by no means trying to make light of the situation.

I have been in an accident when I was a teenager where I turned and hit a car and spun out. I did not have a bmw and thankfully no one was injured.

I have 3 kids and they will probably one day get my old Lexus or our current Tesla. I am not buying him a new car. This “fancy” car may be worth 30k when we give it to him. My oldest is only 13.

Then again this is a forum with people who attack rich or UMC often.

Why do you need to know his identity? If you don't know it already, you must not be in the area. My kid goes to Madison and he knows who the driver was (and, in turn, told me).

What? Why would residents know all the high schoolers? That’s presumptive and weird. You know not every resident has a high schooler?

So, why do you need to know the name again?

Two girls were just killed due to his and his parents negligence.

How is it the parents negligence?

You are not UMC, you are rich. And yes they do. Because so many rich people are completely out of touch with the way the majority of Americans live. Oh your "old Tesla" will only be worth $30k in 3 years? And you want a medal for not buying them a new car? You realize you can get new cars for LESS than $30k, right?

Why buy another one if we already have one just sitting in the garage?

My parents gave me their old Nissan Altima back in the 90s.
