Oakton crash

I hope that that poster simply has a very dark sense of humor and wasn’t really serious.

Then again, nothing surprises me anymore about the parenting around here.

A Corolla goes from 0-60mph in 7+ seconds (a new one). A BMW goes 0-60mph in 2 seconds.

The BMW he was driving (a 2018 BMW 530i) goes 0-60mph in 6 seconds. This was a BMW, but by no means a sporty version of a 5 series - BMW makes the 535, 550, and M5, all of which have larger engines. This is basically the bottom spec model.

+1

Other parents want to be SO incensed at what kind of car the neighbor was driving. Almost as gross as the grief porn part.

Nothing would surprise me at all.

Who is gross, those participating in grief porn or those calling it out?

Is he in jail?? No charges yet.

Was there foul play besides the speeding? Why did the backseat passengers flee?

Why is everyone trying to get this kid put in jail? Is it because he was driving a bmw?

This sounds like a tragic accident.

“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?”

Anonymous wrote:I saw a post on this in Vienna Foodies - weird place to discuss a car crash/deaths - and everyone just HAD to say they live close by or drive by there every day and just “SO SAD”. This has to have a term - whats it called when people have to obsess over tragedy and throw in their two cents/claim to knowing the exact intersection or connection to the death? Like congrats your daughter goes to Oakton, we absolutely needed that input.

Yes, there is a term for it. It's called empathy.

Right, now people expressing empathy are attacked because they feel sad. Oakton/Vienna HS is a crowded residential area and lots of people travel through Blake ln everyday. The memorial is right there, it’s a reminder to everyone of us who drive/ride/walk on that street everyday that a tragedy happened there. We don’t have the right to express that sadness?? And yeah that empathy helps raise funds for the impacted families. It’s a good thing. Please don’t trash on other people’s feeling.

I’m just saying, you can express empathy and sadness without having to state how close you live or work etc. No one cares, it’s not important. It doesn’t make you more special or in the know to live by the intersection. It just looks weird when people are commenting things like I drive on that road! Is this a popularity contest?

JFC. Since when is driving on Blake Lane popular??

If you can't understand human emotions and reactions to tragedy as simple as this, you should look within rather than judging others.

Popularity contest was facetious. I’m sure others feel the same way- it’s a weird reaction for everyone to immediately comment and post about their proximity to a tragedy.

Seriously?!? It's a foreign concept to you that proximity affects empathy?? Do a basic Google search to see how this is very common. We react to things that are close to us differently from things that are on the other side of world. If you can imagine yourself being in someone else's shoes, in this case by driving or walking on that road, you will have more empathy than in the case when you can't even see yourself in someone else's position. This is not rocket science.

I take it you’re one of the people commenting in VF or on this post about how close you are to Blake Lane. Got it.

Your take is wrong, but based on this interaction, you must be very used to being wrong.

I’m in that group, I live right around the corner, I didn’t know the families personally, I didn’t post, but I don’t have any problem with those who posted on VF. End of story. People in this country is overly judgmental on the smallest most trivial stuff.

I’m not judgemental. I’m a millennial who finds boomers and Gen X to be extremely cringey and weird on Facebook.

Yet you spent the time reading their comments and then came here complaining about them, anonymously. If you don’t like those posts, don’t read them. Or tell it to their faces.

Anyone here knows if there is any fundraising for the girl who was injured? I only saw the links posted earlier from the families of the victims who died (may them rest in peace!). I imagine the hospital bill and any future expenses for her recovery would be crazy.

Not a kid. 18 year olds are adults in the eyes of the law. People are "trying to put this kid in jail" because he behaved in a manner that caused the death of two children. Or is that part not really that important?

One of the GFMs is for her and her cousin who died in the accident.

Are you stupid? Or are you stupid?

“Vehicular manslaughter (also known as vehicular homicide) is defined as “the crime of causing the death of a human being due to illegal driving of an automobile, including gross negligence, drunk driving, reckless driving or speeding.” The victim may be a bystander, pedestrian, cyclist, motorist in another vehicle, or even a passenger inside the offender’s vehicle. And because it involves a fatality, vehicular manslaughter is one of the most serious criminal offenses.”

OBVIOUSLY it was a tragic accident. It was also vehicular manslaughter. We’re not “trying to get this kid in jail”, honey, he did that himself.

Will his identity be released? Anyone here have kids that know who it was? Anyone call BMW at Tyson’s corner and say you’ll buy a car if the rep tells who bought it?[/quote]

JFC, this has to be a freaking joke. Call the BMW dealership and pretend you'll buy a BMW in exchange for information? Insane, if real. Unfunny, if a joke.

Everyone will know the name soon enough. Your craving for it now now now is pathetic and a kind of sick voyeurism--IF this post is for real.

Whaaat there isn’t a road in Virginia in which it is legal to drive 90-100 mph, not a angle highway and definitely not a residential lane. What is wrong with you. Do you have any idea how dangerous it is to drive that fast on a road not built for speed. That area of BlKs lane sees multiple accidents a year. Seeing a car on top of a collapsed telephone pole isn’t a rare occurrence there.

If the bmw has been traveling at a safe soled they would have been able to stop…point blank. That Toyota easily could have been a child chasing a ball into the street or a student crossing the road. Or the Toyota could have been turning right off of Blake onto the side street, with its right blinker on while waiting for the girls to cross and the end result would have been the same. A massive accident because the BMW was going to fast to adjust to a hazard or obstacle in the road. You simply can’t go around plowing into people, cars, trucks that are in your path in the roadway. You are supposed to avoid the collision.

This kid will go to jail because his grossly negligent actions led to the crash and homicides. This wasn’t a mistake this was a foreseeable tragedy. But for his actions those girls would still be alive.

The speed limit is 35 because it is a busy residential street, with cars making turns, pulling in and off of the road.
