Three pedestrians suffered potentially life-threatening injuries Monday when two cars collided and spun out of control in Fairfax County, police said. The crash occurred shortly before noon at Blake Lane and Five Oaks Road in the county’s Oakton area, a police spokesman said. He said the motorists and the three pedestrians were taken to hospitals and that the pedestrians’ injuries were deemed “critical.” The crash site is near Oakton High School. The spokesman, Lt. James Curry, said the investigation is ongoing and that police plan to make more details available Monday afternoon. |
| everyone will be okay |
wouldn't be be at school at 11am? |
| The principal said students were involved but they had to notify families before giving more info |
Some high schoolers have free periods, and they're allowed to leave, get lunch outside, etc... |
That wasn't allowed when I went to high school from 2005-2009, but attended FHS... |
I don't know Oakton's schedule, but our FCPS high school is releasing kids at like 11:30 all week. They take 2 finals and they're done for the day. |
Seniors are graduating. 9-11 have part day for finals. But most juniors should only be allowed to have one unrelated teen in the car. |
Praying everything is okay |
|
Hopefully life threatening means the teens will be okay
They are young and can put up a Good fight for recovery |
This isn’t true. It’s not an open campus. It is a shortened day because of the final exam schedule. |
Yes. Lots of prayers. The helicopter video is on WTOPs twitter makes it look like the accident spanned 1/2 a block and there are papers/backpacks/debris everywhere. |
Not always true. If you've had your driver's license for a year, you are allowed to drive up to three non-related under 21 year old passengers to and from a school sponsored activity. So you are allowed to drive to and from school, to and from a sporting event, to and from a dance, etc. As we all know, just because you aren't allowed to do something, doesn't mean everyone always follows the law: speeding, running red lights, not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, DWI, driving on an expired license, driving without a license. I could go on and on. https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/drivers/#restrictions.asp From the DMV website: If you are under age 18, you may carry only one passenger under age 21, unless accompanied by a licensed parent, or other adult acting in place of a parent, in the front passenger seat. However, after you have held your license for one year, you may carry up to three passengers under age 21 in the following situations: Travel to and from a school-sponsored activity; A licensed driver 21 or older is in the front passenger seat; or In case of an emergency. |
