Sports General Discussion
They might like a word, but stats are stats. He has won every master twice. He has won every Grand Slam twice. He has held the number 1 spot for most weeks ever. They did not. |
John McEnroe was much worst. |
Rafa gets the trophy for his disgusting scratch & sniff. |
NP. My dislike for him is because while he is an amazing tennis player, he is a below average human being. He is disrespectful and childish. He is also hypocritical and sexist. He is elitist and prioritizes the top of the ATP rankings and does not care much for the journeyman players. In essence, he is a selfish and egotistical human being. Yes, I respect his tennis skill, but I don't think he is a good ambassador for the sport, I don't think he is a hero or role model. Some star athletes are better than others at that. I prefer to support and cheer for respectable and honorable star athletes. Both Federer and Nadal (among many others) are in this category. Djokovic (and a handful of others) are not. |
LOL! It was a nice thing to have, but who in men's tennis has it? He is the best of them all, why does that bother you so much? Tell me who among men has the Golden Slam? |
How so? Surely, some Croatia officials would have to approve it? Among covid no less? He is a Serb, no? A historic enemy of Croats? How is he so powerful? |
Heh. DYING. |
J M Del Potro has been a good example in terms of sportmanship. |
I like Steffi Graf. She is and was a nice, if reserved person. She had trouble with being in the spotlight. Unfortunately, the Golden Slam is the only real criteria for GOAT that she holds without an asterisk. Her total of 22 slams and her 377 weeks at number 1 were both clouded by the actions of the demented Gunter Parche. From the 1990 French Open until the 1993 Australian Open, Monica Seles won 8 of the 12 slams and did not play in 1. She only lost in 3. Steffi Graf only won 2 Wimbledons in that 3 year stretch including the one Wimbledon (1991) where Seles was injured and did not play. Seles won 4 of their 7 matches including 3 of their 4 matches at Grand Slams. Then came the terrible stabbing in 1993. Seles was out for most of the next 3 years and Graf won 7 of the 12 slams while Seles was out. Additionally Graf held the #1 record for an additional 106 weeks while Seles was out. And finally, Seles was never the same player again. Even after her return, she was not the dominant player she had been and Graf won and additional 4 slams after Seles returned to the tour. I don't question that Steffi Graf was the greatest player of the late 1980's, certainly the dominant player post-Navratiova/Evert, until the ascendancy of Monica Seles. But other than the Golden Slam, I don't really think she is in contention for the GOAT. I think that Navratilova, Evert and Williams are all significantly stronger candidates for GWOAT and that Williams can even be considered for GOAT against the likes of Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. |

I saw Djokovic having a personal meltdown, not personally or intentionally threatening to ram a ball down an official’s throat like Serena. And Biles should go what’s best for her, but of course it’s going to get more attention here because she’s American, not Serbian.
It’s actually funny as hell that some of you think your opinion matters when Djokovic is still going to end up with more Grand Slams than any Roger or Rafa. Clearly you just want to fixate on any white male who is a convenient target, regardless of his nationality, to make you feel better about Serena’s inability to top Margaret Court or Biles’ inability to compete during this Olympics. |
Del Potro was definitely an honorable man. There are many top players who have been models of sportsmanship including many top players. Federer is one of the true gentlemen of the game and has exhibited good sportsmanship and honor many times. He is one of the most respectable top players. Federer has won the annual sportsmanship award 13 times, Nadal 3, Djokovic 0. And there is a reason for that. |
Which others ones do you think are not? |
But Djoker doesn't actually draw the crowds like Roger or Rafa do. He isn't loved. |
He and Courier and John Mac were also incredible asses to Donald Young. The few times Donald's matches were televised as he was coming up, one of those 3 asses would spend most of the match criticizing him for refusing to move to Spain to be a hitting partner for Rafa (career limiting and maybe career ending) or his jewelry, which they just didn't understand, or how he didn't loooove the usta and stayed in Atlanta for the most part. Patrick was in charge for US player development for a long time although he had no skills for the job. You can see how that played out. Pure nepotism and such entitlement. They also had a coach molesting young players back then and they all turned a blind eye. |
Because he knows people would hate him even more. He's smart enough to have his team do this. |
