Why aren't we talking about Novak Djokovic

because no one cares about Serbia winning a medal in doubles tennis

Also no one cares about Olympic tennis to begin with- many top players didn’t bother traveling for it. Total jerky move by him though- no one was forcing him to play mixed doubles but once he commuted he should have seen it through.

No, guys! It can’t possibly be that no one is talking about it because no one even knows about it because no one gives a shit about Olympic tennis, particularly a non-American competing in DOUBLES! It MUST be racism/sexism!!!

He was playing in the bronze medal singles match when he melted down and threw his racquet into the stands. Novak is coming off of two major championships, is one of the greatest players of all time, and is very famous, even among Americans. The point is that his bad behavior does not seem to tarnish his athletic accomplishments in the eyes of the public.

He’s coming off of 3 major championships not 2. He’s a phenomenal athlete and also an a$$. I watch a lot of tennis and can’t stand him.

Right sorry. As in he has won every major championship so far this year and was quite famously aiming for a Golden slam. Do people really not care about him or know who he is?

PP here. It seems as if they don’t care. Do you remember when Serena was going for the calendar slam in 2015? She’s an American but it was everywhere even before social media was this big. If it were Federer instead of Djokovic it would be a much bigger deal even in the U.S.

He's a white male. The world treats him very differently.

What are you guys talking about? The fans are always rooting against Djokovic. I suppose "we aren't talking about" him because the general public does not seem to care about tennis in the Olympics and does seem to care about gymnastics in the Olympics.

I think he has a terrific sense of humor and he does a good amount of philanthropy. But as people here say:

When he is good, he is very very good
But when he's bad, he's HORRID.

I am one of the PP’s, but to answer your questions - of course I know who he is, but no, I do not remotely care about him or his pursuit of the Golden Slam. In particular, I do NOT care about Olympic tennis - to my mind, women’s gymnastics is the premier event of the summer Olympics.

That’s Djokovic in a nutshell.

The classless person was Steffi Graf who quit as McEnroe's partner when they reached the finals of mixed doubles so she could focus on singles, which she lost.

I saw McEnroe playing Borg in a seniors league, and he was again arguing with the refs. He wasn't really upset, just putting on a show for the crowd.

Would people care if Simone Biles withdrew from the Worlds or a different gymnastic event?

Sorry, are you really trying to claim that no one knows who Djokovic is??

Remember when he hit the ball in a fit at the US Open last year and the line judge was hit in the larynx?
Remember when he had that covid tennis tournament and earned the nickname "Novax Djocovid"?
I really want to like him because he's an amazing tennis player, but his character is lacking.

At the Olympics? How is this possible?

they're probably saying that mixed doubles tennis gets around zero airtime on NBC which is how Americans watch the olympics

People are mistaken a**holeness with strength and confidence. Simone Biles, as great as she is, shows "weakness" which is unacceptable for a competitor.
