I would believe she buys second hand luxury brands, but she probably has help or someone looking out for her sizes. Whenever I buy from The Real Real I have to return 90% and tailor the rest. She doesn’t have time for that. |
You’re perhaps projecting an inability to shop/shopaholism (90% return rate, oh dear), or your crap taste. Like AOC, I’m slim with a rack and I’ve returned a grand total of 1 item to The Real Real because it was mislabeled. I don’t get the sense that shopping is her hobby. Hell, true or false, Pelosi has stated a few times that her absolutely loaded husband loves clothes and shopping for them both. You can see the money there. It’s not so for AOC, but people don’t look at her with anything approaching objectivity, so. |
She did tend to wear more designer clothes when she was first elected, and she got a lot of pushback. She’s toned it down quite a bit since. That’s why you won’t find many real fashion plates, even among women members of Congress. They want to look appropriate and professional, but their clothes should never be the story. Pelosi is always perfectly tailored and clearly expensively dressed if you look closely, but it’s never flashy. |
I hadn’t seen the bottom half until today. Good lord. |
I hadn't seen that, either. My jaw literally dropped. She's just so tacky. (I'm a Democrat, FWIW.) AOC is like tons of other people who have inherently decent taste and grew up without money. Dressing well requires creativity and resourcefulness. Sales, secondhand stores...my grandmother sewed lots of my mom's dresses and they were beautiful. AOC knows what works for her, too. And no, she'll never get a fair shake. People will always assume she's shady. |
You would think there would be a dress code. |
She resembles a Hill cleaning lady more than a Senator. |
| No one chooses an outfit like that by accident. She's being deliberately disrespectful to her office, her constituents, and her Senate peers. |
She is the ONLY one who dresses like that. She would never be allowed to dress like that in a corporate law firm. |
Lucky for her she got elected Senator and doesn't have to work at a corporate law firm I appreciate that she makes bold choices and owns her style, even if I don't always like how it comes up AOC has a totally different style. Much more traditional. She looks gorgeous in everything, and chooses good clothes for herself. But it's sort of bananas to compare her style with Sinema, who is just off on a frolic of her own. One I usually enjoy! Even that weird black dress and denim outfit - I would love to have a conversation with her about how the heck she ended up wearing that to work. I bet there's some story. |
Agree. She’s also a New Yorker —and knows how to do the sales and has access to sample sales that many of us don’t. When I first had to dress like an adult, I had some very nice outfits. Most of the more expensive pieces were purchased the morning of the day after Christmas, when I could save 40-60% off the sale prices after multiple markdowns. -Remember Century 21 and Loehman’s? |
The story is that she's white and entitled. No woman of color could dress or behave like she does in that setting. |
