The apolitical clothing thread of politicians

Anonymous
Can someone post the magenta dress with cape she wore the other day? I actually loved that. But I have so many questions. She frequently dresses like she’s going to dinner in Miami - is Arizona fashion like Miami? Why do some of her more recent dresses have attached capes?

OP here. It doesn’t target her because of her politics, so I would say it it’s apolitical.

Her clothes have become less a maverick’s (in her mind, anyway) expression and more of a teenaged-level stupid rebellion, as if she’s trying to see what she can get away with. The bright colors were one thing and I think that’s something that is an appropriate shake-up of the traditional “if it looks like a man would wear it, it’s business appropriate,” but the short skirts, the denim… they really bespeak a person who is giving a middle finger to everyone.

Yes, this is what Sinema is saying with her clothes. It's not clear to me if that's what she means to say, or if she thinks she's showing she's a "maverick" like her predecessor. But McCain came across as a good, caring guy whether you agreed with him or not. Sinema comes across as a jerk. She's basically the Democratic, female version of Trump at this point...her entire schtick is FU, and her clothes are her outward expression of it.

I legit like Sen. Murkowski’s leopard print dress and pearls combo. Outré, yet work appropriate. Does anyone have an ID?

And I’m loving the juxtaposition of the vermillion dress and turquoise beads on whoever that is (and I know I should know who that is).

Kyrsten Sinema, who is often wearing very Modcloth-like outfits (but more upscale) - I sorta love that she's brought a little rockabilly picnic vibe to the Senate

(Not a flattering pic but you get the idea)

I hate her clothes. She does not look like a sitting senator. She always looks like she's going to a garden party. It's embarrassing.

She gets a lot of $$$ for what she is doing and all her outfits are high end designer clothes.

No they aren't. She just dresses appropriately. For any of us who have worked on the Hill, this is what you look like.

+1 I’m actually surprised she was let onto the Senate floor dressed like a biker.

Yeah, that's bad. But I give her props for marching to a very different beat... and maybe helping some staffers get away from always wearing suits.

That is so inappropriate.

Best dressed over 50 is Nancy Pelosi
Best dressed under 50 is AOC

Both wear beautiful, appropriate clothes and look fabulous.

AOC’s clothes are not expensive. They don’t look it even upon scrutiny. Without objectifying, she has an amazing figure and beautiful skin and hair - and taste.

She just nails it. Simpler pieces, almost colorblocking (but subtle) in some of the outfits. She looks great but none of the pieces distract from her work, her clothes are not the feature.

Please excuse the political tweet; I wasn’t going to go searching for the pic elsewhere (there are dozens of relevant threads over in politics). I was trying to figure out what it reminded me of - a pillowcase? A child’s nighty? Then one of the comments beneath says it looks like a straight jacket with the ties removed and I can’t unsee it. But she wore this getup and a pair of running shoes on the floor.

If this is too political you can report it to Jeff and he will delete it, but I couldn’t resist the fashion snark here.

AOC has always worn expensive clothes which is why I have always been suspicious of the narrative. She is a fantastic public speaker though and has excellent political instincts. Unfortunately she also doesn't really get into nuances and sticks to totally unrealistic proposals peddle by the UK's The Guardian and the like.

If I ad to guess, I'd say she wears a lot of Theory.

I saw a video that she did on IG, and she buys a lot of second-hand designer clothing.

I can almost get behind Sinema's clothing choices in throw back to my adolescent style of dressing, but why does her hair always look like it needs to be washed?

I think that is easy to claim and a good way to downplay consumerism and excessive spending while you push a progressive agenda. But I’m sure she buys plenty of stuff new or is gifted it by designers. She and Nancy both dress well considering they both have large chests which makes keeping it professional harder. But they pull it off

You have no clue what you're talking about. AOC is not allowed, as a member of Congress to receive gifts worth more than $50 or so. (Similar to fed gov't employees.) She had no inheritable wealth, unlike Pelosi. She's also of a generation where buying used online is a thing - like from the RealReal and other high end resale. She was young and had no money when she won her seat.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. AOC’s big-spend bag is a Telfar tote, which retailed at $250. She is not a spender like Pelosi. You’re a liar, pure and simple.
