Elaine Tholen's recall is goin to court

It is a shame that the teachers unions are ao partisan and anti education. They really don't represent the interests of public school teachers any more.

+1

They have not done this for many, many years. Check out the salaries and the perks that their leaders get. Not sure about here in Fairfax, but I taught in a system many years ago where the local leader was making 6 times that of a beginning teacher.

This is the same thing with the money in the school system. The school systems don't need more money, they just need to spend it correctly. New programs that are going to be the panacea for everything cost big bucks and seldom do better than what was already there. Paying and securing good teachers would be much more effective.

Sorry I missed your previous posts. Has she done anything right?

Why don't you try answering that poster's question instead of deflecting?

It’s not a serious question. Previous threads are easy to find, as is the petition.

Then it should be easy enough for you to list her “sins” here.

And even easier for you to read the prior threads and the petition/talking points.

If you want to make the case she's doing a good job, go for it. Over 5000 of her constituents were prepared to assert otherwise under penalty of perjury.

People don’t have to decide who they are supporting in the Governor’s race to dislike the fact that their local School Board that is supposed to be non-partisan is instead a collection of party activists who fail to exercise independent judgment.

I agree. If you are happy with how the leadership of the past year and your child’s experience in FCPS, keep voting for Democratic candidates. Many people do not want a repeat, so they are voting otherwise.

There are NO teacher unions in Fairfax County!

The problem is that the R’s end up nominating someone who is worse.

This whole thing is ridiculous. Just because you do not agree with her votes does not mean she was negligent in her duties. If you want her out, don’t nominate a fringe candidate next time.

Anastasia Karloutsos would have been better than Elaine Tholen turned out to be. For sure Anastasia was less of a hypocrite.

A lot of people voted for Tholen because she was a Democrat and it was assumed she'd have more ability to persuade other Ds. And then she ended up throwing them under the bus.

Tholen's main opponent in 2019 was not a fringe candidate. She was a center-right candidate but it was impossible to win in 2019 between the general anti-Trump sentiment impacting even local elections and voters who just voted a straight party line.

A.K. didn’t have experience in Fairfax County. Most likely she wanted her kids to receive the highest level of preferential treatment in FCPS.

What is that even supposed to mean? One of the problems with the current School Board is that so few members currently have kids in FCPS. Tholen hasn't had kids in FCPS for years and some members like Omeish and Frisch don't have kids at all.

I dare say if any of these childless School Board members had to stay home and supervise online education of a K-3 grader for an entire year, their tunes may be different. It’s easy to say, “Yes, online learning will be fun” without having to actually turn your family’s life upside down and deal with the consequences day in/day out.

Melanie Meren has at least one young ES. Rumor was she had a pod with a private tutor….Makes it much easier to keep voting to delay the return to school last fall.

It's in the works. These things take time and a lot of volunteer hours to get the signatures.
