This. It's really illuminating how bitter some of the teachers are even after they were bumped up the vaccination queue earlier than teachers in many parts of the country and most parents on here (ie if school transmission really was significant it would be the unvaccinated parents at home, not the vaccinated teachers in the classroom, bearing the covid risk of schools being open) And it wasn't all vacations. I doubt we were the only ones who left town to finally check in on recently vaccinated, elderly parents out-of-state who we hadn't visited in over a year. (We didn't see anyone else and still will follow the rules returning even though our exposure was only to two vaccinated people so less than most who stayed in town.) |
| Reporting back : I got tested this am with my daughter at the old Georgetown Rd site and we both got our results this evening. Hers was priority mine wasn’t. |
| Same day testing on Washington st in old town - easier parking than the other locations |
You are not the problem. And you are not the parent that upsets teachers. When I send a kid home for not following travel orders, it’s not for my safety. It’s for my unvaccinated students, my unvaccinated husband (yeah we have families too), and my unvaccinated parents. Just because a teacher is vaccinated doesn’t mean they aren’t concerned about those around them. Also, the last thing I want as a teacher is a case in my class and have to go back to virtual while my class quarantines. It’s the parents who feel it’s their right to risk all of the above because they don’t agree with the rules that upset me. Maybe I am bitter. I am bitter at parents who ask me to put their kids first, but in return they can’t put one person above themselves. I am bitter at parents who would risk everything we have been doing to get back in the classroom because they don’t agree with a rule. So maybe I am bitter, but you are not who I am bitter with. I don’t know one teacher who would be upset with you. I actually have no issue with people who went on vacation so long as they followed the rules and waited 3 days to be tested. |
Yes, we assumed some risk, but we also cut short our vacation last week so we'd return to D.C. on Thursday and be able to get a same-day PCR test Sunday before our kids went back to school. We also would have loved to stay out of town longer, but since the risk everyone is assuming is theoretically supposed to be built around the existing rules, we thought it was only fair for us to follow them -- and either come back early or keep our kids out of school until three days after we returned. Evidently the risk we're assuming should ACTUALLY be based on the fact that some parents don't think anyone needs to follow any rules, so maybe we'll keep that in mind going forward. |
Thank you. I'm the PP above you. I love reading about your desire to keep all the hard work getting back to this point together. For what it's worth, my understanding is that if you've been vaccinated you are at pretty low risk of acting as a carrier to bring the virus into your own home because your own antibody levels should still be high from recent vaccination (this answer may need to be reevaluated by Fall once it's been long enough after your second vaccination date for your antibody levels to drop and your own primary protection is T cell memory, but there should be plenty of time over the summer to evaluate that before school starts up again). Obviously, there's no one size fits all description for either teachers or families. Last thing I'll toss in is that if you asked my kids in class they'd tell you we just went on a big vacation. It's easier for us to spin them up and generate excitement about going to grandparents (ie ice cream every night & new toys show up) than say we're going on a long drive to check on a couple 80yr olds who haven't had enough younger help around the house over the past year. Best of luck to you and your family and stay safe. |
We did exactly the same thing - came back from a 5 day trip on Thursday, got tested on Sunday. It was not a big deal. There is some irrationality in the rules, but since testing is so much more easy and accessible than it was say, a year ago, it’s really not a big deal to comply with the rules. |
| I actually trust people in DC to follow the testing rules for the most part. People are really strict about it here! Would be lots of shaming from peers if you didn’t. |
+1 |
Sure we are assuming some risk. We are also assuming that risk is limited because we have been given rules to follow for the privilege of in-person class during a pandemic. You made an agreement to follow the school rules and city rules to return to in person school. Flow them or don't go to in person school. In person school is a choice this year. Next year when it is not a choice I imagine it will be harder and more complicated to enforce stay at home post travel. Will post travel a quarantine absences be counted against kids?? Excused unexcused, online options for the days missed? Idk. But this year it is a choice if you don't like it stay home and for DL or go to a private school. I am also wondering if you were with the big group of white parents at the playground no masks for adults or kids because they were "eating". Follow the rules or stay in your house! |
And you're sure these were PCR tests? Because rapid tests and PCR tests are 2 different tests, and OP is asking specifically about PCR. |
Thank you for that. The entitled, "proud of lying and proud of raising their kids to lie" poster can't be bothered to do it the right way, they've decided their convenience and disregard for rules that don't benefit them is more important than anyone else's health. Those of us who believe in karma and who also believe in treating others the way we want to be treated will continue to follow the rules. The entitled, happy to lie poster... karma will sort them out. |

So, back to the original question. Where can we find a list of 24-72 hour PCR testing sights??
In a couple months when school ends we want to go see vaccinated grandparents (they are not able to travel to us) before summer school starts up. I assume the same restrictions will be in place (for Summer School, ESY & Fall) in the coming months as well which is fine and we intend to follow. So, I am trying to put together a list of testing sights for the our reference. Does the city or dcps have a list of approved testing locations? |
Same Day Testing had multiple locations and accepts insurance. You can pay for expedited results if you need them but the turnaround is generally faster than promised on the longer turnaround times. |
| Capitol Medical Group provides same day PCR testing for children and adults. |
