Good lord do you have nothing better to do on a beautiful Friday than come on DCUM and be snarky? #SAD

Snarky? You've got to be kidding right? Children, teachers, and school staff might be infected by this decision.

Teacher here, and parents lie all the time! They even tell their kids to lie about where they have been. Also, your kids tell us everything...even when you tell them to lie. Parents who put their children in that position over vacation are pathetic. This a terrible example for your children. Not to mention you should just follow public health guidelines because it’s the right thing to do.

It’s a dumb rule, and one of the things I’ve taught my kids is to not blindly follow authority.

And your kid will be sent home. If everyone picks and chooses what rules to follow, why should anyone follow rules. All of this not to miss a vacation in the middle of a pandemic sounds a bit privileged to me.

No, he won’t. Anyway, my kid knows how to be discrete about these things.

So you admit to raising a lier. Who gets to decide what are good rules to follow in your family? Do you also speed, steal, and vandalize because they are stupid rules and obviously you should be able to do whatever you want.

I’ve raised a kid who isn’t a blind rules follower. If that means sometimes holding back certain facts, that’s fine. In our family, my wife and I decide what rules our family will follow. So, for example, we don’t wear masks while socializing with friends and family. And we travel as we see fit.

The travel restriction, unlike laws against speeding, stealing and vandalism, isn’t based on any rational basis. Why would you want to teach your kids to follow irrational rules?

So that’s a yes. You’re going to lie.

Then they turn around and want to know why teachers don’t want to teach their kids in person. Parents don’t care!!! Little Tommy just had to have his island vacay! Epitome of privilege.

DC teachers have all had the opportunity to be vaccinated. Kids traveling on spring break are not a threat to them.

What about the other kids? They haven’t been vaccinated.

So what? Covid isn’t a meaningful threat to kids. If their parents are sending those kids to school, they’re comfortable with the risk.

So selfish of you. Yes, I'm vaccinated, but I worry about your kid infecting others. Just stay at home and then come in after the test. It's not dumb. It's to protect all of us.

Why not move to an area that doesn’t have such rules? Or work to get the rules changed? The policy makers in DC have decided that this is a good rule to keep people safe. Society falls apart when we all start picking and choosing. It’s a slippery slope.

What if parents are sending their kids to school under the risk assessment that everyone is following guidelines. What gives you the right to decide that for everyone else over a stupid vacation?

Charter parent here begging you all not to ruin it for those of us at schools that are too skittish to invite children back. Just follow the rules. The kids have missed so much school as it is. What's an extra day in order to do the right thing?

I can’t believe people would be that naive. You shouldn’t expect others to protect you.

Why should we have to move? And, honestly, DC’s policy makers are a bunch of morons.

Everyone sending their kids to school is assuming the risk.

And you should not return to school unless you want to follow the rules. If you don’t like the rule bc the encroach on your lifestyle, you can do virtual school. You have to sign an agreement to follow the rules when you return. You are terribly selfish human.

That agreement is in no way legally binding. It’s just a suggestion.

The language in the Mayor's guidance from March15 states:
Limit daily activities and get tested for COVID-19 within 3-5 days after returning to DC.

The key word is "within"

Get tested within 3-5 days of returning from travel. If you returned Saturday and got tested today, that is "within" three days of your return.

Nope. That's within 1 days of your return. Don't be a public health jerk.
