Another nanny and vaccine question

We mandate the vaccine in our small business but have a couple of employees with medical exemptions. If she provides you with a letter from her doctor, you need to back off IMO.

That’s a small business, not a household employer of one nanny.

I disagree completely! As the owner of a small business and employer of a nanny, I have mandated that everyone is vaccinated against covid. We’re in a pandemic and all exemptions have gone out the window. As long as the virus spreads it will continue to mutate. It would be completely irresponsible to subject my vaccinated employees to possible exposure due to those who won’t get vaccinated.

I will fire anyone who refuses to be covid vaccinated.

I was surprised I had to pay over three months salary to our nanny so she could stay home when we were first in quarantine (nothing in our contract about that) and she was surprised we insisted on her getting vaccinated (nothing in our contract about that). The pandemic is full of surprises.

Nanny got her second dose yesterday.

My sister can't be vaccinated, as it could kill her. I'm glad she doesn't work for you.

I hope you fire someone for asserting a religious exemption. Please do. They could use the money.

LMAOOOOOO

NANNY HERE-

We are at will employees. We can be fired for anything. Do you know how many nannies get fired because the mom feels insecure? Between the dad’s roving eyes and the kids affection, we are constantly on edge about being fired for something ‘illegal’. It’s not illegal when you are an at will employee. We can and do get fired for being too hot, the kids like us a little too much, people don’t want a flu shot, too many sick days, too old, you name it. Things you would never get fired for in the corporate world. People don’t see domestic workers as real people, just the hired help. We have zero protections under the law, and if you’re a nanny you better get vaccinated 1) to protect the kids 2) or else you’ll be fired.

Nanny again- On DCUM I’ve read countless posts about how parents would fire their nannies for being Trump supporters... and you think we have protections under the law about what we put in our bodies??? I am vaccinated, I’m just saying that the law doesn’t see us as actual people.

Most employees at At Will employees. I work for a corporation and I am an at will employee. That doesn't mean that you can get fired for your employer breaking the labor law. Well, actually you can get fired but it's illegal and you have the right to pursue them in court. Problem is no one has the time or money to do that.

So we are saying the same thing. You have to bend to your employers will -- even if it's illegal if you want to keep your job. Happens in corporations too BUT I have noticed that it is very true that nanny's are not considered 1st class human beings by their families.

The slavery word comes up and honestly fits. The level of entitlement that these families have is incomprehensible to me. It seems like they don't acknowledge that they have a human working for them and I definitely see them expecting things that they themselves won't do.

You won't have that business long if you fire someone who has a medical or religious reason for not taking the vaccine.

She would be let go if she did work for me. So I’m glad your sister doesn’t work for me too.

If she’s refusing give her an ultimatum

She must wear masks while working at all times, must temp check before work and during, must wear gloves, must bring own food and utensils. No outings with child except to parks and no play dates

I highly doubt she’ll agree to this.

It’s vaccine, fully masked and more or quit

She has choices -the 3 given and it’s now on her.

You don’t need to state anything more than “my family’s needs have changed”.
