Another nanny and vaccine question

Of course you can! Businesses all over the country are mandating covid vaccines now. You can absolutely get fired for refusing to get vaccinated.

Let's see how the litigation goes on this one shall we? You might be taking advantage of the fact that your nanny won't have the time and resources to litigate but there are those employees out there who will. I am supportive of the vaccine but getting fired for not getting an Emergency Authorized one is too much.

At Will employees haven’t a leg to stand on. Any private employer can demand you’re vaccinated and if you refuse fire you without reason.

Again, let's see how the litigation goes.

Whatever happened to "my body, my choice"? Hmmm.

Your choice, or your job. Not a problem.

YOur body, my position. You get the covid vaccine or you get your body out of my house. Simple.

As someone who had her nanny bring covid into my house and give it to 3 of my family members (including kids), I am absolutely insisting on anyone I employ in my house getting vaccinated. My nanny ended up being very sick and of course I gave her paid time off (4 weeks), but I’m still frustrated bc our nanny caught covid by eating an unmasked meal with someone who had a known exposure. I obviously can’t force anyone to be vaccinated, but it’s now a required condition of employment. So far I have arranged for my cleaning person and nanny to be vaccinated.
To those of you trying to argue that it doesn’t matter bc the nanny will just be dealing with kids, one of my kids is still dealing with bad covid issues and it has now been 3 months. This is not a gamble anyone should take.

This is why we haven’t had childcare or help with cleaning since last March.

I’m curious: One thing that stood out to me in all of this is that the OP, and other people who commented, did not indicate their own vaccination status. That leaves me wondering if people are forcing a new vaccine — that comes with multiple unknowns — on their employees— when they haven’t gone through the process of being vaccinated themselves. If this actually is the case, it’s a dynamic that feeds into a history that has some people used as guinea pigs while others have the benefit of taking their time to get whatever information they feel they need to make an informed decision without being coerced.

It’s not the case. We got vaccinated and arranged for our nanny to be vaccinated soon after.

Good to know!

Nanny here-

Your nanny is an idiot. Do you want someone like this as a role model for your children? Besides being dumb, your nanny is selfish and doesn’t care about your kids. That’s the bigger issue here. I’ve lived like a hermit for a year and then spent at least 20+ hours scrolling and refreshing sites to get my vaccine. The only nanny I know who isn’t vaccinated is a Trumper. Seriously. I’ve been a nanny for 20 years and I only know one nanny who isn’t thrilled to be vaccinated and didn’t rush to get it, so they could protect the kids in their care.

Find yourself a nanny who actually cares about your family.

Nanny again- Here in Los Angeles, most agencies posting jobs are saying families will only accept vaccinated nannies of nannies who will agree to get the vaccine. My best friend owns an agency and she said this is the new normal. Most families already ask you to get an annual flu shot. Do not listen to people who say this isn’t standard, because anyone making a new hire is asking for a vaccinated nanny. Protect your family.

Op, have you offered her a religious or medical exemption?

We mandate the vaccine in our small business but have a couple of employees with medical exemptions. If she provides you with a letter from her doctor, you need to back off IMO.

That’s fine, but I think the nanny should not expect her contract to be renewed.
