Can't they vote remotely? |
Nope, not under the current Senate rules. Mitch would need Dem votes to change the rules
|
Current rules don't allow that. |
No. And even if they could - my concern is how do they plan to effectively question a Supreme Court Justice in hearings while under the influence of narcotics and painkillers themselves? |
| I expect that Mitch will kick any dead, sick or quarantining members off of the Judiciary Committee and replace them with healthy ones. |
Now you’re thinking like Mitch! He’s not a decent man by any measure. He will fight tooth and nail to get her on the court. He will not let this one go without getting very ugly. Trust. |
| What can the democrats do? Does it matter if any more republicans test positive? |
I don’t believe they can do anything. The ball is in the R’s court. Although optics are bad when everyone starts getting infected. |
Well let’s hope if it gets to that he is willing to risk the possibility of them not confirming her. |
Very little. If she gets it and is not able to attend might be the only thing that will delay. |
Actually, they can do a lot. They need a quorum on the committee and a majority of votes. 2 repugs are stricken already. |
| No hearings are actually required. ACB was confirmed for appellate court less than three years ago with hearing and a bipartisan vote. May push up timeline and just call for an immediate vote if they have the repub vote in line. |
They don’t have to have hearings - but you are missing the point that the committee must vote her out in order for a full senate vote. They might not have the votes to do that. |
| How's the Supreme Court confirmation going to go? 51-49. Justice ACB will be confirmed. |
Not sure where you got your news, but it contradicts the official statement: https://www.ky3.com/2020/10/03/two-members-of-senate-judiciary-committee-test-positive-for-covid-19-missouri-sen-josh-hawley-to-be-tested/ |
