Looting, looks to be small scale, in Tenelytown and Friendship Heights.

Lots of things to consider before you let fear change your politics. 80% of those arrested in Minneapolis were affiliated with white supremacy groups and were outside instigators. How do we know that the same thing is not happening in DC and other cities around the country.

If you're spending more time protesting property damage than police murdering black people, then you are part of the problem.

And for those of you so concerned that these protests won't "win the hearts and minds" because they're insufficiently peaceful, may I point out 1) Kaepernick knelt in 2016 about this and wasn't exactly met with a warm embrace from white people and 2) Dr. King had a 75% disapproval rating and then was murdered.

It would seem to have the opposite effect because it will sour much of the public to their cause.

Far right groups are suspected in participating in several of the rioting and looting. If that’s the case looks like their plan will work.

Here's a video from the looting at the CVS in Friendship Heights that took place an hour or two ago:

Unless the far right has started recruiting black people, then I don't think that's the case.

And? Look at footage of the looting at AFL-CIO - not a black person in sight

How do you loot the AFL-CIO? Did someone load up a cart with collective bargaining agreements?

ok I love the work that the AFL-CIO does, and this still made me snort my coffee.

I remember troops on every corner behind sandbags in the federal area and downtown. I'm as pissed as anyone else about George Floyd but this is out of control and Bowser needs to step up and take control of the city.

Politics here. Mayor fancies herself a Governor, but of course she is not. One of the things that she does not have, as she is not a Governor, is a National Guard. The DC National Guard is deployed by the Secretary of the Army. He is appointed Governor of DC by the President for this deployment. The Mayor needs to request that the guard be deployed but she sees it as giving up 'state' power.

By the way, there were 500 DC Guardsmen deployed yesterday, but they were providing logistics support to MPD downtown.

Interestingly the DC National Guard has several Military Police Battalions. Uniquely qualified to assist in times like this.

(DC National Guard has a little less than 1500 members) DC National Guard has the ability to grow its numbers through 'guard sharing' arrangements. These are typically used as last resorts as 'Governors' feel their guards are uniquely qualified to work with their own citizens.

OK, then I guess it still boils down to Bowser. She doesn't want control taken from her or ask for help from the Trump administration. Those MP battalions are trained for this type of mission, to not use them in this situation is ridiculous.

You re correct. The bottom line is a control issue. Which by the way is in name only. It is not as if the Secretary of the Army takes over control of the city. He just calls the guard, writes the orders, pays them (DC does not pay the guard when they are employed, the fed does unlike other cities.) Anyway, he acts in consultation with the Mayor. But She love referring to herself as the Governor and this is one of those times where she is reminded that she is not.

Only days ago, DCUMers were threatening to riot if the economy wasn’t immediately opened and schools didn’t open full time in the fall.

Rioters taking advantage of groups trying to have peaceful protests is making me so angry. I'm also convinced that this is deliberately done by groups with an agenda to take away power from the protestors.

It 100% is. So keep the conversation on WHY the protests are happening in the first place. Lord and Taylors has insurance. They'll be fine.

We keep hearing about far right groups. I watched the riots on tv all weekend. I saw white people protesting and baiting cops. I saw black people doing the same.

With the looting in DC and Philly, I only saw young black people.

They looted a jewelry store run in DC, and they showed video: all black.

Every Game Stop, shoe store and liquor store was looted by young black people.

I did see white people setting fires in DC, but they weren’t looting. They looked like anarchists.

Lord & Taylor is poised for bankruptcy and possible liquidation. Rodman’s is a small family owned business struggling through the pandemic. They will not be “fine.”

Insurance generally does not cover rioting/looting and civil disobedience/unrest.

That sucks. George Floyd is dead.

It's hard to do this, because then people will say you aren't talking about the damage being suffered by people other than Lord and Taylors. We need to have a conversation about both the protests, and the rioters, but make sure that we keep the issues distinct.

They employ people, bozo. Or is your solution just to step up welfare payments higher in DC?
