Where the hell is the DC National Guard? All video I've seen and not any in sight. They did it right in 1968 when they brought in 10K federal troops to quell the violence. I remember troops on every corner behind sandbags in the federal area and downtown. I'm as pissed as anyone else about George Floyd but this is out of control and Bowser needs to step up and take control of the city. |
This. Just wait. Looting/burning houses will be next |
I'm very sorry to hear of this. Perhaps the violence will motivate them, but DCMPD seems to lack all car theft wherewithal. Car crimes have been rampant in NW DC, going back to 'normal times'. During Covid, there has been a pattern of taking advantage of this national crisis to 'jack' food delivery vehicles in AU Park and escape along Western Ave. etc. Residents have not taken it up with ANC, Mary Cheh, or Mayor. Again. Time to pick up the phone? |
She won't. It is considered "whataboutism" in our society to question looting. |
Isn't one of the the points of the protests that blacks are disproportionately arrested?? These photos don't prove anything, imo. |
Where is the Mayor?
Why wait until 11 PM for a curfew? If you are going to have a curfew, make it for sunset. |
Politics here. Mayor fancies herself a Governor, but of course she is not. One of the things that she does not have, as she is not a Governor, is a National Guard. The DC National Guard is deployed by the Secretary of the Army. He is appointed Governor of DC by the President for this deployment. The Mayor needs to request that the guard be deployed but she sees it as giving up 'state' power. By the way, there were 500 DC Guardsmen deployed yesterday, but they were providing logistics support to MPD downtown. Interestingly the DC National Guard has several Military Police Battalions. Uniquely qualified to assist in times like this. (DC National Guard has a little less than 1500 members) DC National Guard has the ability to grow its numbers through 'guard sharing' arrangements. These are typically used as last resorts as 'Governors' feel their guards are uniquely qualified to work with their own citizens. |
It’s not about justice. It’s about grabbing more “free stuff.” |
They didn’t have Twitter and 24 hour “breaking news” cable back in MLK’s day. |
Rodman’s is a family run business. How would you like your livelihood to be destroyed, especially during the COVID challenge? |
+1. The looters are just opportunistic criminals.......I’m just surprise how many there are. Why aren’t any black leaders speaking out about this shameful behavior? |
Regrettably, I think you're right. Bowser (and many other Mayors) essentially gave looters/those committed to destruction a green light by not clamping down hard on Day 1. The morons in the Minneapolis Police Department even gave them a freakin' station house to burn down. Since the city has given a giant finger to business owners, can we really trust them to change tactics for homeowners? It's pathetic. |
OK, then I guess it still boils down to Bowser. She doesn't want control taken from her or ask for help from the Trump administration. Those MP battalions are trained for this type of mission, to not use them in this situation is ridiculous. |
Nobody’s burning houses down. Stop creating hysteria. |
