+1. I'm in Bethesda all the time, or at least I was pre-pandemic to go to the gym--anecdotes about Finnish and Turkish people aside, at the end of the day, Bethesda is mostly white. And just because a community is very international doesn't mean there isn't racism. I'm 1st-gen American, and some of my relatives have definitely said racist stuff about black Americans. |
This guy is an idiot who popped off and made racist statements. I'd hardly say what we witnessed makes him a white supremacist. There is even a decent chance he is Jewish judging by appearance. |
lmao!! |
He called a child the n-word, implied a woman was a foreigner, and threatened to destroy her perceived homeland. That's on top of sounding drunk and disorderly. Jesus Christ. You want to talk 'I felt threatened' ala the Central Park incident, THIS is threatening someone. |
I just had a conversation with a coworker about this earlier. Men who argue with women automatically look like weak bullies to me. 100% of those men would never do the same to another man. |
I was totally expecting to see the same thing, lol. |
Totally agree, PP. Folks are calling the black birder in Central Park threatening for offering treats to a dog, but are bending over backwards to say that this guy was NOT threatening. SMH. |
The wording he used, though I'm sure he didn't give much thought to it, is key. I didn't hear any _specific_ threats of immediate violence to her. I don't think any laws were broken. I guess we'll see. His license plate is visible, and surely MCPD will announce charges if they file them. |
Not his demographic--this guy looks to be in his late 60s, at least. The Coexist bumper sticker folks tend to be younger, like 40s. |
There are some parts of Bethesda that are very multi-cultural and accepting. Unfortunately there are also parts of Bethesda and Potomac which are filled with with white supremacists like the jerk in the video, those that flee from parts of DC and MD that have encroaching minorities and want their white haven. They treat minorities poorly, they don't want their children around "those people" and consider anyone that isn't white to be a foreigner who should "go back where they came from". As a non-white person, I've seen enough incidents to realize that Montgomery County is full of racists like this. |
Gee whiz. The solidarity amongst some white people is unmatched! Even when it's clear as day your brethren are wrong--- they are somehow still made right. If it weren't so disgusting, the unity would be admirable. |
I didn't hear the n-word on the tape. She thinks he said it -- and he may have -- but that isn't clear from what I saw. Implying someone is a foreigner doesn't make someone a white supremacist. It appeared she had an accent of some sort, so if he did that, he would be right -- although it would be an inappropriate and irrelevant thing to say. Do you think he had an atomic bomb in his trunk? So, yes, it is a threat of sorts, but not one that would cause someone to have direct fear. But even if you take that as a threat, that doesn't make him a white supremacist. In my mind, there is a big difference between someone making racist statements and even harboring some racist feelings and being a white supremacist. |
People have said that what he did is not criminal. That's different. And I haven't seen anyone hear say that the birder was acting in a threatening manner. You are inventing straw men. |
You do realize that people with accents can actually be American, right?? |
You're kidding right. Every other sentence in that thread is 'she felt threatened!' Meanwhile the only thing he did was ask her to back away and offered her dog treats. Someone even said the treats could be poisoned! Hypocrites. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/883782.page |
