I mean it's only the middle of May and they are supposed to start phase 1 within the week or two so yes it's definitely possible. Each phase isn't supposed to last months. |
Head First has camps in multiple jurisdictions including MC. I wonder how they will handle it? |
|
Unless they’re setting up as childcare for essential workers, I’d take any camp’s claim to be “open” with a grain of salt. The various phases of reopening are still contingent on a lot of different elements, and very few specific, definite dates have been tied to the different phases—in any of the three jurisdictions.
Until a jurisdiction explicitly states that day camps can open after a certain date, and clearly outlines the requirements camps must adhere to, it’s mostly just guesswork. It’s great that camps are planning and doing their best to work toward fulfilling what they think will be required, but I wouldn’t bet my child care budget on it actually happening, in spite of their best intentions. |
If phase 1 starts on May 28 and goes two weeks exactly (the minimum), then we will be in phase 2 by Jun 12. That would mean things would have to really start looking up, and given how not-proactive VA and the federal govt has been, it seems unlikely but I guess....a girl can dream? |
That does not mean all camps in MoCo are cancelled..just the ones run by the Park department. |
How they could close the parks dept camps and let the private camps run this summer would be beyond my comprehension. |
Because it's a liability issue. County camps are going to be more conservative then private camps. |
But did they close for the whole Summer? |
Because gov camps and large publicly funded companies don’t care that you’ll need childcare eventually, and they don’t care about the $$ either. Closing camps and making refunds for a private camp often it’s a matter of survival. They will want to make camps happen and will wait until it’s absolutely prohibited to do so. |
ESF not yet cancelled but only offering credits if they do. Or possibly "virtual camp" which is beyond useless. Really upset to see almost every other camp is refunding. |
No liability if COVID spreads in their camp? That’s what they’ll wait for? |
It's also a $$$ issue. County camps and rec camps dont run a big profit. Private camps run a big profit. Private camps can afford to hire extra cleaning staff, get extra sanitation equipment, change things around. For town camps and rec camps, it's not worth the cost. They start to become a drain on the county finances, which are already in trouble. |
Yes, private camps are a seasonal business and this is what they DO. they will run unless they're prohibited. they wont preemptively cancel. camp is such a small portion of what the county or the rec dept etc. does |
| No word form Barrie or Dynamite which are the two I’m waiting on right now.... |
