Half the price? That seems ridiculously high.

Yeah, no thanks. I’ll take my refund.

But they haven’t said yet that they are definitely cancelling right?

correct, but you have to make a decision about what you want to do by may 31- and right now the choices are cancel with refund, or agree to online camp for 50% tuition with possibility of some on campus.

Wait, what? Holding on to see if they open later in the summer for in person camp is not an option?

Uh, camps and schools don't run simultaneously. That's the whole issue. If schools announced they were closed in the fall, which would never happen now, of course camps wouldn't open (except maybe select ones that are all outside or whatever). It's all the unknown of what summer will bring.

Many camps use public school facilities during the summer. The schools might not want to take on the liability of disinfecting, cleaning etc. for the summer just for the camps.

Anecdotal, but I heard from the person who runs a basketball league that uses FCPS school gyms and she said Fairfax County told them gyms would be available for use after June 16.

Thanks, that is promising.

Loudoun County PRCS Director just postponed registration. They will not open up summer camps until NOVA is in Phase 2. Who knows when that'll be. In his message, he speculated two to four weeks from the start of Phase 1.

Anyone know what’s happening with Fairfax County?

I emailed last week to ask and they said nothing was canceled YET and they were assuming everything would be going forward as planned.

My reading of their messages is that they aren’t planning to have regular in-person camp this summer. They are hoping they might be able to have some optional on-campus activities to go with virtual camp, but don’t yet know if those will be possible.

Did Brooksfield in McLean cancel yet?

I'm still torn about what to do or camps. One camp is going virtual at half the cost, but you also have to buy a supplies kit for $100. I can't justify spending $300/week for 3 hours/day in front of a screen.

completely ridiculous. $300 is enough to buy enough science kits, slime kits, art kits, lego kits etc for the month.

Silver Stars Gymnastics in Silver Spring is currently refusing to refund. Technically they have not yet written to cancel, so I suppose they get to keep my "nonrefundable" payment until they actually have to call it off. But I don't see "nonrefundable" as applying to their cancellation, only to mine. If I back out, that's my fault and my loss, but if they fail to offer the service, they don't get to keep my money out of the kindness of my heart.

DS goes to camp at our Temple. They announced yesterday they were cancelling in-person camp and would be transitioning to a virtual camp at no cost. They will be offering full refunds (minus $100 registration fee) but give an option for donations since cancelling camp is a big financial hit. We will probably donate ~$100/week.

I'd like more information on what the virtual option looks like - hours, etc. but i think they're still working all that out.

Agreed, but we don't have outside help and will still be working fulltime albeit virtually.

Barrie just cancelled the first three weeks of camp. Now starts 7/6. Choice is for a full refund, enrolling later in summer if there is a spot, or credit for next summer at this year's rates.
