Westland bus incident

Not so weird ..... Moms are bitches, don’t you know? Or we’re crazy emotional women protecting our special snowflakes. We can’t stand when our children are punished, and we’ll do anything to protect them from accountability so we can get our kid (who’s actually dumber than a rock) into Harvard.

It’s not weird; it’s more of the misogyny we live with daily.

MCPS has this perspective woven throughout it’s system. Complaints by Moms are never taken seriously no matter where in the system.

They should be trained to deescalate, not tell kids to F off. That mom might have overstepped, but she was being protective of her kid and her neighbors’ kids, and I understand that impulse. Especially if MCPS had blown off her concerns. There’s so much abuse of power these days in general that everyone should be working double time to protect those who have less power. If that sometimes means overstepping, so be it.

My son is off at college now, but when he was in middle school, I remember very clearly that if he missed his regular bus, I would suggest that I drive him to the next corner, where he could catch a later bus, but he was adamant about not taking that bus. I found out eventually it was because of bullying.

Nevertheless, any behavior by kids on the bus NEVER justifies a driver to use the F word. This guy clearly has anger issues and should be fired.

If she weren't white, the police would have been called and the person would have been arrested for trespassing or disorderly conduct.

Yes.

I feel bad for the driver. I would have anger management issues too if I drove a bunch of middle school students.

That happened. MCPS didn’t do anything after multiple reports.

Honestly, this is another instance in which parents should file suit against MCPS.

Oh, please! And you wonder why the school system does not have enough money? It’s constantly being sued by entitled parents.

Exactly. You can clearly see the kids are standing, being disrespectful, and so on. I saw other videos shared by neighborhood parents, and of course there was online discussion. NO ONE brought up the issues with the kids’ behaviors.

She is no better than the driver and should both be banned from the bus.
Completely ridiculous that parent took the snooty tone to complain about the heat on the bus. All she had to do was to tell her kid if he did not like the heat, choose another seat! Everyone knows that the buses have a few seats with the heater located under the seats and those seats are always more warm when the heat is on. So sad that parents do this!

AGREE! I have heard for years about these 8th grade boys at Westland who as a rite of passage claim the back seats and act like jerks back there. The bus drivers are actually under a lot of pressure to keep their bus schedules while driving in the most horrid traffic circumstances. What those parents really need to do is to teach their children to be good citizens of their school and community.

Yup, exactly. I posted the link earlier...but here it is again https://wjla.com/news/local/mcps-bus-driver-caught-on-camera-telling-students-to-fu-off-reassigned-to-new-route?fbclid=IwAR3eL0Yo3mfJnLfohR0rDTTUrzus3eJoVqeB4QEffsYtYZOCWfYAjIo1w8A

It's wacky how many people are defending this deranged person who should not be behind the wheel.
WRONG. People know what’s really behind this video that shows a limited context of what that bus driver endures from those horrid boys.

The driver apparently has a history of being super angry. He should not be driving kids around.
not true at all. He has other routes where the parents support him. He has had to put up with these bullying boys and their mom. Also, what 8th grade kid goes home to complain about the heat on the bus. I mean really. The fact that this boy went home and actually told him mom that the heat was too hot? And why did she not simply tell him to pick a seat without the heater if he does not like the seat??? How does she help her child by forcing her way onto the bus to demand to know why the bus is so warm??? She probably sets up all his play dates, gets him on the school play, and fights for his grades too.

this post is just so EXTRA. Paranoid much?

Is the road rage, cursing, yelling bus driver still employed by MCPS and driving kids?

This is my biggest concern. Why on earth would MCPS ignore the liability of someone with anger control issues operating a school bus full of kids? Cursing and screaming at 11 year olds is bad enough but people with road rage get into accidents.

I get that Derek Turner would prefer to hide this to avoid bad PR but MCPS does have a legal department. The lawyers should be freaking out that there are documented complaints about this driver's anger issues and he's still on the job. If he gets into an accident, the liability for MCPS is huge now.

+1 Same issues with 8th graders on our Pyle route. Maybe it is because they are being raised by You Tubers the parents never watch.

Props to the mom for being every stereotype of Bethesda White Mom. Thin, white (obviously), deceptively calm voice, hands clasped, passive-aggressive approach, calmly refusing to follow the driver's instructions, baiting him to erupt, ignoring the driver's response and instead repeating her ridiculous question (why is it so hot on here?). Well done.
